A burr located at an edge of a steel piece is cut by disposing a cutter such that the flank of the cutter is substantially in parallel with the surface of the steel piece and the angle between the cutting edge of the cutter and the edge of the steel piece which the burr intersects is at least 45&deg;. The cutter is relatively moved toward the outside of the steel piece along the lengthwise direction of the burr, or the cutter is disposed with the flank of the cutter substantially in parallel with the surface of the steel piece and the angle between the cutting edge of the cutter and the edge of the steel piece is at least 90&deg;. The burr located at the edge of the steel piece is cut by relatively moving the cutter perpendicularly to the lengthwise direction of the burr.

Burr removing method and apparatus

In a burr removing method and apparatus of the present invention, a burr located at an edge of a steel piece is cut with a cutter by disposing the cutter such that the flank of the cutter is substantially in parallel with the surface of the steel piece on which the burr exists and the angle between the cutting edge of the cutter and the edge of the steel piece which the burr intersects is at least 45&deg; and piece along the lengthwise direction of the burr; or by disposing the cutter such that the flank of the cutter is substantially in parallel with the surface of the steel piece on which the burr exists and the angle between the cutting edge of the cutter and the edge of the steel piece which the burr intersects is at least 90&deg; and cutting the burr located at the edge of the steel piece by relatively moving the cutter perpendicularly to the lengthwise direction of the burr. In the present invention, burrs such as welding burrs and the like formed when billets and so on are continuously rolled can be cut without the occurrence of a protruding burr.

A plurality of materials are rolled in an upstream stand. While the transfer speed of a succeeding material and the front end position thereof are detected, the transfer speed and the rear end position of a preceding material are detected by a measuring roll. The transfer speed of the succeeding material is controlled by adjusting at least the drive speed of the pinch rolls so that the front end of the succeeding material contacts the rear end of the preceding material at a specified position in a travelling welder. The rear end of the preceding material is joined with the front end of the succeeding material by flash-butt welding using the travelling welder to form a continuous material while letting the travelling welder move at a speed synchronous with the transfer speed of the continuous material. The welded portion on the continuous material is ground and/or cut to remove burrs therefrom. After removing the burrs, the continuous material is continuously rolled by a down-stream stand.

Apparatus for continuously rolling steel billets

In a burr removing method and apparatus of the present invention, a burr located at an edge of a steel piece is cut with a cutter by disposing the cutter such that the flank of the cutter is substantially in parallel with the surface of the steel piece on which the burr exists and the angle between the cutting edge of the cutter and the edge of the steel piece which the burr intersects is at least 45&deg; and relatively moving the cutter toward the outside of the steel piece along the lengthwise direction of the burr; or by disposing the cutter such that the flank of the cutter is substantially in parallel with the surface of the steel piece on which the burr exists and the angle between the cutting edge of the cutter and the edge of the steel piece which the burr intersects is at least 90&deg; and cutting the burr located at the edge of the steel piece by relatively moving the cutter perpendicularly to the lengthwise direction of the burr. Apparatus for continuous rolling by welding the rolled materials at an intermediate stage of a rolling line

This apparatus has plural fixed grinding machines, which are installed along the direction of travelling line of billets. Facing pairs of grinders are equipped in a manner that the distances between each facing pair of grinders are gradually shorter along the travelling direction of the billets from the upstream side to the downstream side. In such a multiple-stage grinding machine, the burr on the welded part of the top and bottom side of the billet is ground sequentially by the grinders, and the burr on welded part of the right and left side of the billet is ground sequentially by the grinders.

Method and apparatus for continuous rolling by welding the rolled

A continuous rolling method includes the steps of: de-scaling billets sent directly from a continuous casting machine; continuously welding the billets using a travelling flash butt welder; grinding a burr on a welded part of the billets to remove the burr using a travelling grinding machine; heating the billets to an elevated temperature using an induction heater; and conducting continuous rolling. The travelling flash butt welder and the travelling grinding machine are separately movable along a running line of the billets, and are moved together during flash butt welding. The flash butt welding is carried out while the flash butt welder and the grinding machine travel a specified stroke for welding. The travelling grinding machine and the travelling flash butt welder are moved together to meet the welded part of each of the billets, and the travelling flash butt welder is returned to a waiting position after the flash butt welding is completed. The burr on the welded part of each of the billets is removed while the travelling grinding machine independently changes travelling direction and travels a specified stroke, after the welded part arrives at a specified position.

Continuous rolling method of cast billets

An apparatus for joining billets in continuous rolling mill comprises a pair of parallel rails 14, a travelling welding machine 4 having first support rolls 54,55, a travelling grinding machine 5 having second support rolls 56a, 56b,57, a first group of carriages 41,42,43 each of which has a third support roll 51,52,53 for supporting billets, and a second group of carriages 44,45,46 each of which has a fourth support roll 58,59,60 for supporting billets. The travelling welding machine welds a rear end of a preceding billet with a front end of a succeeding billet while moving on the pair of rails. The travelling grinding machine removes burrs on a weld zone of the billets while moving on the pair of rails. The first group of carriages is arranged upstream of the travelling welding machine and is connected with the travelling welding machine by a flexible joint member. The second group of carriages is arranged downstream of the travelling grinding machine and is connected with the travelling grinding machine by a flexible joint member.

Apparatus for joining billets in continuous rolling mill

A method for removing burrs in a continuous rolling process including the steps of joining the rear end of a preceding billet with the front end of a succeeding billet using a flash butt welding method while both billets are moving, and grinding a burr on the welded part of the joined portion using a plurality of grinders while the billets are moving and while rotating the grinders and moving the grinders synchronously with the travelling speed of the billets. A grinding machine for continuously rolling a round billet includes a travelling body shuttling along the direction of movement of the round billet, a turret ring rotatably supported by the travelling body, and a plurality of grinding devices arranged in a movable manner within a radius of the turret ring, wherein the grinding devices include grinders which are set at a tilted angle relative to the center axis of the rotatable turret ring. A grinding machine for continuously rolling a rectangular billet includes a travelling body moving along a moving direction of the rectangular billet, two pairs of grinding devices located at a front side and a rear side, respectively, of the travelling body and having grinders which rotate on a plane facing the rectangular billet and along a longitudinal direction of the rectangular billet, a moving device for moving the grinding devices in a right angle direction relative to the rectangular billet, and a device for moving the grinders to come close to and apart from the rectangular billet.
