A bonding structure includes a first member, a second member and a bonding member. The first member has a plate shape and is made of a carbon-base material. The first member serves as a heat diffusion member that transfers heat at least in a thickness direction, which is perpendicular to a plane of the plate shape. The second member is bonded to the first member through the bonding member. The first member has a metal thin film at least on an opposed surface that is opposed to the second member. The bonding member is disposed between the opposed surface of the first member and the second member. The bonding member is provided by a sintered body of metal particle. For example, the bonding structure is employed in a cooling unit including a heat source.

There is provided a polymer or low-molecular-weight compound multilayer type organic EL device configured such that a light-emitting layer formed on a hole transport layer includes a mixture of a polymer material and a low-molecular weight material. With such a configuration, the low-molecular-weight material added to the polymer material serves as a binder filling the gap of the steric hindrance to form entanglement of the polymer material and the low-molecular-weight material. This results in that the interface between the hole transport layer and the light-emitting layer is an interface high in adhesion and also high in carrier injectability. Further, optimization of the formation conditions and materials can achieve still higher reliability and longer lifetime.

4-Cyanocoumarin derivatives which have a distinct sensitivity to visible light, distinct luminescent ability, and satisfactory applicability for photochemical polymerization, dye lasers, and organic electroluminescent elements. Since most of the derivatives have a fluorescent maximum wavelength of 600 to 650 nm, particularly, 610 to 630 nm, they are extremely useful as luminescent agents for organic EL elements which emit visible light in a red-color region, and can be quite useful as luminescent agents in organic EL elements and laser-active substances in dye lasers, as well as luminous bodies as lighting sources for lighting devices, and information displays for visually displaying information.

In a laminate product formed by an organic member and/or an inorganic member, high strength adhesion between the organic member and the inorganic member is achieved by providing an adhesion layer which includes amorphous carbon nitride (a-CNx:H) particularly between the organic member and the inorganic member. The invention provides electroluminescent (EL) elements, such that a red EL light source, a green EL light source and a blue EL light source emit red color light, green color light, and blue color light, respectively, and are disposed at the rear of liquid crystal display elements. Each EL light source includes an organic EL element in which an organic thin film emits light. Each EL light source has a structure in which an organic luminescent layer is sandwiched between an indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode and a metal electrode which have striped patterns which are orthogonal to each other, and sections (luminescent sections) at which the striped patterns of the ITO electrode and the metal electrode intersect with each other emit light. The luminescent sections are arrayed two-dimensionally on a glass substrate and illuminate the entire display area of the liquid crystal display element.

Quinoline derivatives represented by formula (1) wherein two or more of substituents R to R are each a group of formula (2). In general formula (2), Q is a carbo- or hetero-aryl group; and the number (n) of double bonds is preferably 1 to 3. Use of such derivatives in an organic EL device provided with a layer of an organic compound and two electrodes sandwiching the layer as the organic compound gives devices emitting yellow to red light with high brightness and high efficiency. Further, doping a hole transport layer with such derivatives realizes organic EL devices capable of emitting lights of resultant colors (e.g., white) composed of lights from light-emitting and hole transport layers.

Quinoline derivatives and organic electroluminescent devices

An organic EL element has an anode, a cathode, and one or more organic compound layers sandwiched between the anode and cathode, wherein at least one layer of said organic compound layers includes an organic compound denoted by chemical formula (1), which is more specifically denoted by chemical formulas (2)-(5). By introducing desired substituents at R -R , these compounds can be made to demonstrate hole transport function, emissive function, electron transport function, or a combination of those functions. Due to its tendency to be structurally non-planar, the organic compound does not crystallize easily, and has a high glass transition temperature. Use of such a compound in an organic EL element enhances element life.

Organic electroluminescent element

An optical resonator type organic electroluminescent element has a multilayered film mirror , a transparent electrode , an electron hole transportation layer and a luminescent layer configuring an organic layer, and a metallic electrode mirror , formed on a glass substrate . The optical resonator type organic electroluminescent element amplifies a specific wavelength (especially, in a range of about 30 nm toward a shorter wavelength side from a luminescence peak wavelength of the organic layer) in luminescence light by a minute optical resonator, which comprises the multilayered film mirror and the metallic electrode mirror . It is determined that the minute optical resonator has an optical length L which is twice as long as a resonance wavelength, the organic layer has a thickness of 100 nm or more, and the transparent electrode has a thickness of 50 nm or more or a thickness so to have a sheet resistance of 30 &OHgr;/&square; or less. Thus, the transparent electrode can be prevented from generating heat even when a large current is caused to flow into it, and the element characteristics can be reliably prevented from being deteriorated. Moreover, the reliability of this element can be improved because the organic layer containing the luminescent layer has a sufficient thickness.

A thin-film electroluminescent device includes dielectric layers having improved dielectric characteristics. The device is fabricated by forming a first transparent electrode layer of ITO, a first dielectric layer, a luminescent layer, a second dielectric layer, and a second transparent electrode layer of ITO in this order on an insulating substrate. Each of the two dielectric layers is a film constituted by TaSnON. That is, the film includes tantalum, tin, oxygen, and nitrogen.

A micro-optical resonator type organic electroluminescent device utilizing an organic electroluminescent material high in emission efficiency but broad in emission spectrum width, has a narrow half bandwidth in the emission peak and a superior forward directivity and an excellent monochromaticity in light not separate into components, wherein a micro-optical resonator is formed by a multi-layered mirror and a metal mirror. The optical length of the micro-optical resonator, calculated from the total thickness and the refractive index of a transparent conductive layer and a luminous layer placed between the multi-layered mirror and the metal mirror and also from the light penetration depth into the multi-layered mirror, is 1.5 times the wavelength of a desired light emitted from the device, and the desired light is set on the short wavelength side of the emission spectrum of the electroluminescent material.
