A method of producing a nanograin material wherein a hole-transporting surfactant is injected into an InP/ZnS dispersion solution, and the surface of an InP/ZnS quantum dot is covered with the hole-transporting surfactant to prepare an InP/ZnS dispersion solution with a hole-transporting surfactant. The InP/ZnS dispersion solution with a hole-transporting surfactant is then applied to a substrate using a spin coating process of the like to form a quantum dot layer with a hole-transporting surfactant having one or more layers. Then, a dispersion solution (replacement solution) containing an electron-transporting surfactant is prepared. The substrate having the quantum dot layer with a hole-transporting surfactant is immersed in the replacement solution for a predetermined time, and part of the hole-transporting surfactant is replaced with the electron-transporting surfactant to form a quantum dot layer having one or more layer.

Method of producing nanograin material, nanograin material, and photoelectric conversion device

A light-emitting device having a first light-emitting layer with a first quantum dot having a first core part and a first shell part. The first shell part has a surface coated with a surfactant, and the first shell part has a thickness of 3 to 5 ML based on the constituent molecule of the first shell part. The light-emitting device also can have second light-emitting layer with a second quantum dot having a second core part and a second shell part. The second shell part has a surface coated with two types of hole-transporting and electron-transporting surfactants, and the second shell part has a thickness of less than 3 ML based on the constituent molecule of the second shell part.

A solar cell that includes a negative electrode made of Al&#x2014;Nd or the like formed on a substrate, an electron transport layer made of n-type Si or the like, a quantum dot arrangement layer made of graphene or the like, a quantum dot layer, a positive hole transport layer made of p-type Si or the like, and a positive electrode made of ITO or the like are sequentially formed on a surface of the negative electrode. Output electrodes are formed on the positive electrode so that at least a part of the surface of the positive electrode is exposed. The quantum dot layer is constructed such that quantum dots of Si cluster particles are three-dimensionally periodically arranged. The Si cluster particles have an average particle size of 3 nm or less, and the interparticle distance between the Si cluster particles is 1 nm or less.

Solar cell and method for producing solar cell

A quantum dot, which is an ultrafine grain, has a core-shell structure having a core portion and a shell portion protecting the core portion. The surface of the shell portion is covered with two kinds of surfactants, a hole-transporting surfactant and an electron-transporting surfactant, which are concurrently present. Moreover, the hole-transporting surfactant has a HOMO level which tunneling-resonates with the valence band of the quantum dot and the electron-transporting surfactant has a LUMO level which tunneling-resonates with the transfer band of the quantum dot. Thus, a nanograin material which has good carrier transport efficiency and is suitable for use in a photoelectric conversion device is achieved.

An electron transporting surfactant is added to a raw material solution such that the electron transporting surfactant is coordinated on the surfaces of quantum dots, and after the dispersion solvent is evaporated by vacuum drying, the immersion in a solvent containing a hole transporting surfactant prepares a quantum dot dispersed solution with a portion of the electron transporting surfactant replaced with the hole transporting surfactant. The quantum dot dispersed solution is applied onto a substrate to prepare a hole transport layer and a quantum dot layer at the same time, and thereby to achieve a thin film which has a two-layer structure.
