Provided a vibration measurement device for a rotary tool held by a tool holder that is coupled with a spindle and axially rotates in cooperation with the spindle. The vibration measurement device includes: a pair of acceleration sensors attached to a horizontal plane with respect to a rotary axis of a rotary tool in a manner symmetric to the rotary axis; an amplifier circuit that matches impedance of acceleration information from the acceleration sensors and amplifies voltage; a low-pass filter that removes predetermined high frequencies from an output signal of the amplifier circuit; and a subtraction circuit and an addition circuit that output a parallel vibration signal in an XY direction and a vibration signal in a rotational direction, respectively, from the output signal of the low pass filter.

A mutant AOX2 (alcohol oxidase 2) promoter derived from the natural AOX2 promoter by base sequence deletion, insertion, or substitution is disclosed. A microbial strain carrying a gene under the control of such a mutant AOX2 promoter can be obtained by growing in a methanol-containing medium a strain incapable of producing AOX encoded by the AOX1 gene but carrying the AOX2 gene under the control of the natural AOX2 promoter. A heterologous protein may be produced by cultivating the mutant strain with the desired heterologous protein gene incorporated downstream from the mutant AOX2 promoter. A plasmid carrying the mutant AOX2 promoter is also provided.

An intermediate roll is immersed in the sealing liquid accumulated in the U-shaped sealing tank. First reversing rolls and second reversing rolls are located above the vacuum end of the tank and third reversing rolls and fourth reversing rolls are located above the open end of the tank. Two endless belts extend from the first roll to the second roll, and extend from the second roll to the third roll via the intermediate roll, and extended from the third roll to the fourth roll, and are return to the first roll via the intermediate roll. The endless belts have means for separably joining both the side edges of one endless belt to that of the other. A steel strip is inserted into the gap between the endless belts at any one pair of reversing rolls located in an upstream side, and is released from any one pair of reversing rolls located in a down stream side.

In a method and apparatus for measuring temperature by using a state change of a working fluid, a temperature measurement is executed in a manner such that the working fluid is initially supplied at a constant mass flow rate into a flow channel having a throttle portion at a temperature-sensitive portion. Upon the measurement of a pressure difference between opposite ends of the throttle portion, the temperature can be determined through a calculation using the measured pressure difference. The temperature measuring apparatus includes a source of a working fluid and a probe. The probe includes an external cylinder closed at one of its ends and an internal cylinder which is accommodated in the external cylinder and has a capillary tube at its forward end. The apparatus further includes a supply tube for introducing the working fluid from the source into either the internal cylinder or the external cylinder, and a pressure control device. A mass flow control device is further disposed in series with the supply tube to control the mass flow rate. A differential pressure gauge for detecting a pressure drop across the capillary tube and a temperature determining device for determining the temperature in accordance with a signal output from the differential pressure gauge is included in the temperature measuring apparatus.

A scale-covered, hot-rolled steel work is heated under a reducing atmosphere and is then allowed to slowly cool while placed under the reducing atmosphere. Thereafter the work is maintained at a predetermined temperature under an oxidizing atmosphere to cause the scale to be re-oxidized. The work with the re-oxidizing scale is then allowed to stand to cool quickly, imparting fine cracks to the scales. The scales can readily be removed from the work during the subsequent pickling step.
