A power transmission belt having an endless body with a length, an inside, and an outside. The body has cogs on at least one of the inside and outside of the body and spaced along the length of the body so as to define alternating cog crests and cog troughs. The cog crests each have oppositely facing side surfaces with an apex between the oppositely facing side surfaces. There is a reinforcing fabric on the at least one of the inside and outside of the body. The reinforcing fabric has first and second spaced end portions with a first free end at the first end portion and a second free end at the second end portion. The first and second end portions overlap so that the first and second free ends are each at a side surface on a cog crest.

Power transmission belt

A method for estimating remaining life of a power transmission belt. The method includes a step of providing a power transmission belt having a) a body having a rubber material with a length and laterally spaced surfaces to engage a cooperating pulley and b) a plurality of fibers embedded in the rubber material and projecting in a lateral direction so that a plurality of the fibers have a portion that is exposed at one of the laterally spaced surfaces. The method further includes the step of magnifying the one laterally spaced surface to identify cracks in the rubber at the fiber portion. Based on at least one of the nature and quantity of cracks in the rubber material, the remaining life of the power transmission belt is estimated.

Method of estimating remaining life of a power transmission belt

A power transmission belt having a body with a length, inside, and outside, and laterally spaced side surfaces. The body has a compression section, with there being a plurality of fibers embedded in the compression section having a diameter of 0.7 to 0.9 denier.

An apparatus and method for forming at least one of a rib and groove on a surface of a power transmission belt/belt sleeve. The apparatus has first and second supports on which the belt/belt sleeve can be mounted for movement in an endless path. Power transmission belt and system

A double V-ribbed belt having a body with an inside, an outside, a length, and laterally spaced sides. At least a first rib is exposed on the inside of the body and extends in a lengthwise direction. At least a second rib is exposed on the outside of the body and extends in a lengthwise direction. A substantially inextensible layer resides between the first and second ribs. Laterally extending reinforcing fibers are provided in the body on at least one of the inside and outside of the inextensible layer, with the concentration of reinforcing fibers on the inside of the inextensible layer being different than the concentration of reinforcing fibers on the outside of the inextensible layer.

Double V-ribbed belt

A power transmission belt having an inside surface and an outside surface. The power transmission belt has: a compression section defining a plurality of laterally spaced, longitudinally extending ribs made at least partially of rubber; a plurality of discrete, laterally extending reinforcing fibers in the ribs; a tension section outside of the compression section and defined at least partially by a rubber layer; and a plurality of discrete, laterally extending reinforcing fibers in the rubber layer of the tension section. The length of the reinforcing fibers in the rubber layer of the tension section is greater than the length of the reinforcing fibers in the ribs.

V-ribbed belt

A tensile cord manufacture wherein polyester multifilament cords are heat treated and drawn to provide tensile cords for use in power transmission belts. Preselected characteristics of the original cord, parameters of heat treating and drawing, and characteristics of the formed tensile cords required to provide the improved features of the invention are set forth.

Method of forming power transmission belt tensile cord

A multiribbed power transmission belt and method of manufacturing the same, wherein an unvulcanized belt preform is provided with transversely extending staple fibers in the compression section thereof. The compression section is caused to be vulcanized while being urged against a mold having projections forming shallow grooves in the inner surface thereof. The grooves have a depth in the range of approximately 20% to 50% of the height of the ribs intended to be formed in the final power transmission belt. The ribs are formed in the belt by removing material from the compression section of the vulcanized preform, such as by the conventional machining operations of grinding, cutting, etc. The angular deflection of the reinforcing fibers in the compression section is caused to be no more than approximately 25% to provide the improved belt construction.

Method of manufacturing multiribbed belts

A multiribbed power transmission belt having an inner portion of the compression section thereof defined by arcuate side surfaces converging inwardly. In one form, the side surfaces are circular. The outer portion of the compression section is defined by planar side surfaces converging inwardly. In one embodiment, the outer portion side surfaces are tangent to the inner portion arcuate surfaces and, in another form, the outer portion planar side surfaces intersect the arcuate side surfaces of the inner portion of the compression section. The distal tip of the ribs, in one form, is circular concentric with the side surfaces of the inner portion. In an alternative disclosed form, the tip surface is planar transversely to the rib.

A power transmission ribbed V-belt having a plurality of outer ribs and a plurality of inner ribs. The number of outer ribs and height of the outer ribs differs from the number and height of the inner ribs. In the preferred embodiment, the ribs define trapezoidal distal portions having cylindrically rounded corners and planar end faces. Other rib configurations are disclosed. In the illustrated embodiment, the ribs are spaced from the midportion of the belt carrying the tensile cords by base sections, and transversely extending short reinforcing fibers are provided for improved lateral stability of the belt.
