A mobile communication device is provided that has a transceiver including a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) and a calibration circuit for calibrating the VCO. The calibration circuit includes a logic block configured to estimate a calibration value for a tuning of the VCO to a desired frequency, and an asynchronous counter configured to execute a counting sequence to identify a frequency of the VCO after the tuning of the VCO using the calibration value, where the calibration circuit is configured to determine a tuned calibration value for producing the desired frequency from the counting sequence.

Voltage controlled oscillator calibration

A method and apparatus for initial acquisition using an adaptive threshold includes performing a sort operation of a plurality of full-length correlator outputs and updating the adaptive threshold. Partial-length correlator outputs are generated and compared with an adaptive threshold. If a partial-length correlator output for a particular PN sequence timing is greater than or equal to the adaptive threshold, a full-length correlator output for that PN sequence timing is generated. A sort operation of a plurality of full-length correlator outputs is performed, and sort results are used to update the adaptive threshold. If a partial-length correlator output for a particular PN sequence timing is less than the adaptive threshold, a full-length correlator output for that PN sequence timing is not generated.

Method and apparatus for using adaptive threshold with initial acquisition

An automatic frequency control (AFC) system adapted to compensate for an insufficient capture range is described herein. The AFC system may be implemented in a mobile station for use with a wireless communications system such as code division multiple access (CDMA). The AFC system determines if a transmission frequency is within a capture range. The AFC system modifies a reference frequency generated by the mobile station if the transmission frequency is not within the capture range.

A signal pre-processing apparatus for processing signal such that the signal is selectively adjusted for gain and equalization based upon a plurality of parameters predetermined by a noise reducing means. The present invention is a method and apparatus for substantially reducing undesirable noise components of speech signals in speech processing without necessitating added hardware, complexity, or sacrifice in speech signal integrity. In particular, background noise is reduced by means of frequency transformation and modification thus greatly enhancing speech quality without significantly affecting the reconstructed speech. By estimating the noise spectrum continuously from the input signal, the present invention permits modification of the frequency response of the input signal thus reducing the effect of the noise components of the input signal.
