A communication device and a communication signal generation method are provided that perform receiving input data; and processing the input data according to a determined channel to generate a communication frame. The determined channel corresponds to one of a plurality of channels including at least one first channel defined by a first mode and at least one second channel defined by a second mode. A frequency band of the first channel including subcarriers is different from a frequency band of the second channel including subcarriers. A frequency interval of the subcarriers in the first channel is different from a frequency interval of the subcarriers in the second channel. A number of the first channel(s) in the first mode is different from a number of the second channel(s) in the second mode.

Communication device and communication signal generation method

A communication device and a communication signal generation method that perform, adaptively, a wired power line communication that is given desired communication characteristics being in such a level as to satisfy user demands is provided. The communication device includes a selection unit a selection unit which selects a mode that prescribes a number of one or more channels prepared in a prescribed frequency band used for a communication to be performed with another communication device via a wired medium and a channel to be used for the communication in the mode; and a signal processing unit which generates communication frames to be used for the communication by performing signal processing on input data according to the selected mode and channel.

A communication apparatus performs a communication using a communication frame corresponding to a predetermined frequency bandwidth including a first frequency bandwidth and a second frequency bandwidth. The communication frame includes a first communication channel that corresponds to the first frequency bandwidth and that has a plurality of subcarriers and a second communication channel that corresponds to the second frequency bandwidth and that has a plurality of subcarriers. A frequency band is divided into N subchannels. Sub-channels are first allocated for a power line communication system having a higher priority, such as public communication or the like. Sub-channels for a power line communication system having a relatively low priority, such as in-home communication or the like, are allocated from free subchannels. In this case, the subchannels used by the power line communication system having the high priority are limited to a plurality of consecutive subchannels from an upper side or a lower side of the frequency band.

A coexistence controller which performs management and control of time division for coexistence, is provided in a power line communication modem which has a function as a QoS controller for a QoS type communication system and a power line communication modem for a best-effort type communication system. In the QoS type communication system, by controlling allocation of a communication band in accordance with priorities given to the communication systems by cooperation of the coexistence controller and the QoS controller, the power line communication systems having different schemes can coexist.

A medium access control method is provided in which a control station transmits one specific frame to terminal stations, thereby arranging a schedule of a data transmission time of the control station and each of the terminal stations and allowing a time zone unused by a station for data transmission to be allocated to another station. The control station transmits a schedule frame having defined therein a time occupied by each of the terminal stations, thereby reducing overhead. Also, the completion of the preceding communication performed by another station is detected, thereby effectively using an idle time of a medium and improving transmission efficiency.

A method for detecting a synchronization point of an alternating power in comparing the alternating waveform with a threshold voltage is provided. The method includes the steps of detecting a rising point at which the voltage of the alternating waveform changes from a level lower than the threshold voltage to a level equal to or higher than the threshold voltage; detecting a falling point at which the voltage of the alternating waveform changes from a level equal to or higher than the threshold voltage to a level lower than the threshold voltage; measuring a first interval from the rising point to the falling point subsequent to the rising point; measuring a second interval from the falling point to the rising point subsequent to the falling point; and determining the synchronization point based on a difference between the length of the first interval and the length of the second interval.

A terminal for performing multiple access transmission suitable to a transmission path having varied characteristics includes a transmission/reception section, a control unit, a transfer management section, and an external interface section. Specifically, the terminal refers to an IGMP (MLD) message received by the transmission/reception section to classify a transmitter host and a relay device of the message based on a characteristic of the transmission path, and performs a multiple access transmission of a multicast packet in a form suitable to the characteristic of the transmission path.
