A fuel feed pump is provided that has a fuel flow-rate regulating valve, on the inlet side. The fuel flow-rate regulating valve includes a housing with a fuel inlet port and a fuel outlet port, a valve mechanism for controlling the flow rate of the fuel from the inlet port to the outlet port, and a regulating mechanism for regulating a backpressure to control the position of a needle valve of the valve mechanism in response to a system pressure, to thereby control the flow rate by controlling the fuel flow through an opening provided in a valve chamber. This arrangement makes it difficult for contamination to accumulate, and also enables a low-cost implementation.

A glow plug for a diesel engine includes a heat generating coil, a control coil, a sheath, an electrode rod, and a housing. The heat generating coil serves as a heater element. The control coil is connected in series with the heat generating coil and serves as a controller for controlling power supply to the heat generating coil. The control coil has a positive temperature coefficient of resistance larger than that of the heat generating coil. The sheath accommodates the heat generating coil and the control coil to be embedded in a heat-resistant insulating powder. The sheath has an elongated small-diameter portion on a distal end side thereof and a large-diameter portion on a rear end side thereof. The heat generating coil is connected to an inner wall of a distal end of the small-diameter portion of the sheath. The electrode rod has a distal end portion to which one end of the control coil is connected. The housing supports a rear end portion of the sheath on the distal end side thereof, and the electrode rod. The heat generating coil is disposed in a distal end portion of the small-diameter portion of the sheath, and the control coil is disposed to extend from the small-diameter portion to the large-diameter portion of the sheath.

An apparatus for grinding the ball groove has an apparatus bed which is movable in a direction of a longitudinal axis of the ball groove relative to a work holder for holding a workpiece, a supporting bed which is provided on the apparatus bed, a grind stone holder which rotatably mounts on a front end thereof a grind stone for grinding the ball groove, and an electric motor and a gear mechanism for rotating the grind stone. The grind stone holder, the electric motor and the gear mechanism are mounted on the supporting bed. The supporting bed is supported on the apparatus bed so as to be adjustable in inclination about an axis of inclination which is perpendicular to an axis of rotation of the grind stone and which passes through the center of the grind stone.

In a glow plug, a resistance element buried in an elongated, rod-like insulating ceramic member includes first and second resistive heating elements. The first heating element is arranged at the front end portion of a ceramic heater and made of a positive temperature coefficient resistive ceramic material, containing silicon nitride, such as SiAlON. The second heating element is arranged behind of and connected in series with the first heating element and made of a metal material (e.g., tungsten) having a positive temperature coefficient of resistance larger than that of the first heating element. Both heating elements are arranged in the portion of the ceramic member projecting outwardly from the holder and metal pipe fitted about the control portions of the ceramic member. The glow plug further comprises a metal holder holding the rod-like member in a way that a front portion of the rod-like member protrudes from the metal holder. The metal holder is substantially tubular and includes a metal pipe fitted on and fixed at a central portion in a longitudinal direction of the rod-like member, and is connected to the second heating element.

Super-hard grinding particles are electrodeposited on a metallic grinder matrix having recessed portions defined in an outer peripheral surface thereof to thereby produce a desired grinder used for a grinding machine. The grinder matrix is disposed within a mesh-like grinding-particle holder provided in a plating tank. Further, the grinding particles are packed into the grinding-particles holder. The grinding particles held in contact with the recessed portions of the grinder matrix are bonded to the grinder matrix using a plating layer formed by electroplating. The grinder matrix is reversed upsidedown and holding the grinding particles in contact with the recessed portions of the reversed grinder matrix. The grinding particles are bonded again to the grinder matrix using a plating layer formed by electroplating.

A self temperature control type glow plug includes first and second resistor elements and a sheath. The sheath diameter of a first portion of the sheath in which the first resistor element is embedded is set to be smaller than the sheath diameter of a second portion of the sheath in which the second resistor element is embedded, wherein the ratio of the latter diameter of the former diameter ranges from 1.3:1 to 2:1. A tapered portion of the sheath joining the first and second sheath portions encloses a gap larger than at least the sheath diameter of the portion in which the first resistor element is embedded between the first and second resistor elements. The first and second resistor elements are connected to each other within the gap through a connecting means having a substantially zero resistance.

Glow plug having self-temperature control function

A ceramic heater type glow plug includes a U-shaped ceramic heater consisting of a resistive ceramic material, a hollow metal holder, an external connecting terminal, a power control resistor, and a connecting unit. The hollow metal holder has a distal end portion for supporting the ceramic heater via insulating members. The external connecting terminal is insulatingly supported at a rear end of the metal holder. The power control resistor is arranged between one of terminal caps at a rear end side of the ceramic heater housed in the metal holder and the external connecting terminal and performs power supply control with respect to the ceramic heater. The connecting unit connects another one of the terminal caps at the rear end side of the ceramic heater to the metal holder. The power control resistor consists of a metal material having a larger positive resistance temperature coefficient than that of the resistive ceramic material constituting the ceramic heater. The connecting unit includes a hollow metal sleeve for insulatingly housing the power control resistor. The rear end of the metal sleeve is caulked to the rear end of the metal holder while the external connecting terminal is fitted in the metal sleeve via an insulating member.

A glow plug for a diesel engine includes a first resistor serving as a heating element, second and third resistors, a sheath which incorporates the first, second, and third resistors, a heat-resistant insulating powder filled in the sheath to insulate the first, second, and third resistors from each other, and a cylindrical housing for holding the sheath. The second and third resistors are connected in series with the first resistor, are made of a material having a positive resistance-temperature coefficient, and have a positive resistance-temperature coefficient larger than that of the first resistor. The heat capacity of a given sheath portion having the third resistor therein is set larger than that of the other sheath portions.

An energization control apparatus for a glow plug includes a battery, a glow plug, a power control unit, and an energization controller. The glow plug has a low rated voltage which allows rapid heating at a low battery voltage during cranking of a diesel engine in a severe wintertime condition. The power control unit is arranged between the battery and the glow plug to control a power supplied to the glow plug. The energization controller controls the power control unit so as to equalize a root-mean-square value of a voltage applied to the glow plug to be the low rated voltage when a voltage applied to the glow plug at the start of the diesel engine is detected to be higher than the low battery voltage.

A diesel engine glow plug having an elongated hollow electrically conductive holder, which holds a rod-like ceramic heater at one end thereof such that one end of the heater extends outside the holder. An external connecting terminal is positioned in the other end of the hollow holder and electrically insulated from the hollow holder. The ceramic heater is a U-shaped heating element with a pair of parallel lead portions made of a resistive ceramic material extending backward from both ends of the U-shaped heating element and arranged such that the outer surfaces of the lead portions are held by the distal end of the holder through electrical insulating layers between the inner surface of the holder and the outer surface of the lead portions. A glow plug for a diesel engine includes an electrically conductive ceramic (e.g., SIALON) heater having a U-shaped heating portion with a pair of integral parallel leg portions extending into the end of an elongated metallic holder. The leg portions have a thickness larger than the U-shaped heating portion and are electrically insulated from the holder by an electrically insulative coating formed therebetween. An electrically insulating sheet having essentially the same thermal expansion coefficient as the ceramic heater fills the gap between the leg portions and is bonded thereto to form a seal preventing combustion products from reaching the interior of the holder. A pair of coaxially arranged external connecting terminals extend into the other end of the holder and are electrically connected to the leg portions.

A glow plug for a diesel engine includes a hollow holder, and a ceramic heater made of SiAlON extending through a distal end portion of the hollow holder and held by it. The ceramic heater is provided with a U-shaped heating element and a pair of lead portions extending backward from both ends of the U-shaped heating element and parallel to each other. The heating element and the pair of lead portions are integrally made of a resistive ceramic material. One of the lead portions is coupled to one end of an electrically conducting flexible wire, the other end of the wire being coupled to an external connecting terminal. A ration .epsilon.(.dbd.SH/SL) of cross-sectional areas SH of the U-shaped heating element to cross-section areas SL of the lead portions falls within the range of 0.15.ltoreq..epsilon..gtoreq.0.6.

A glow plug for a diesel engine includes a U-shaped ceramic heater of SIALON supported by a hollow metallic holder. The heater has a U-shaped heating portion projecting from one end of the holder and is supported therein by a pair of parallel ceramic lead portions of a thicknesses greater than the heating portion. One lead portion is electrically connected to the interior of the holder and the other lead portion is electrically insulated from the holder and electrically connected to an external connecting terminal extending into the other end of the holder. The lead portions are spaced from each other to define a slit therebetween open to the interior of the holder. A sintered ceramic sheet of SIALON integrally seals the slit against entry of combustion gases into the interior of the holder.
