An image forming system includes an image forming apparatus, a varnish application apparatus, and a controller. The varnish application apparatus includes a varnish application unit configured to apply varnish to a recording material, a first conveyance unit configured to convey a recording material in a first conveyance path that passes through the varnish application unit, and a second conveyance unit configured to convey a recording material in a second conveyance path that does not pass through the varnish application unit. When failure is occurred to one or both of the varnish application unit and the first conveyance unit and failure is not occurred to the second conveyance unit, the controller is configured to permit execution of the second image forming job and to convey a recording material by the second conveyance unit in the varnish application apparatus.

Image forming system

An image forming system includes an image forming apparatus, a varnish application apparatus, and a controller. When the image forming apparatus is in a standby state and preheating of varnish in a tank by a heater is completed, if an image forming job of forming a toner image on a first recording material and applying varnish thereto by a varnish coater is received, the controller controls a guide member to guide the first recording material to a first conveyance path. When the image forming apparatus is in a standby state and preheating of varnish in the tank by the heater is not completed, if an image forming job of forming a toner image on a second recording material and not applying varnish thereto by the varnish coater is received, the controller controls the guide member to guide the second recording material to a second conveyance path.

An image forming apparatus is configured to execute a first image forming mode, in which an image is formed by forming toner images on a first photosensitive member and a second photosensitive member, and a second image forming mode, in which an image is formed by releasing the first photosensitive member from an outer peripheral surface of an intermediate transfer member and bringing the second photosensitive member into abutment against the outer peripheral surface of the intermediate transfer member. A control unit is configured to set a potential difference, which is a difference between an absolute value of a dark point potential of the second photosensitive member and an absolute value of a direct current component of a developing bias, to be lower in a case of the second image forming mode than in a case of the first image forming mode.

Image forming apparatus

When ending image forming, a state is realized where charging by a charging roller is stopped (charging bias off) and also applying DC voltage at a developing device is stopped (developing bias DC off). In this state, AC voltage is applied to the developing device (developing bias AC on), thereby adhering toner to the surface of a photosensitive drum and forming interposing toner. Driving of the photosensitive drum and an intermediate transfer belt is then stopped in the state with the interposing toner interposed between the photosensitive drum and intermediate transfer belt.

A representative configuration of an image forming apparatus according to the present invention includes a torque meter configured to gauge a rotation load of a photosensitive drum, and a controller configured to control whether to drive a development sleeve when the photosensitive drum is rotated during non image formation or control a driving speed of the development sleeve when the photosensitive drum is rotated during non image formation, based on a difference between first dynamic torque of the photosensitive drum when the development sleeve is rotated at a first speed and second dynamic torque of the photosensitive drum when the development sleeve is stopped or when the development sleeve is rotated at a second speed smaller than the first speed.

A width of an untreated section in a drum blade is shorter than a width of an untreated section in an intermediate transfer member blade in an image forming apparatus using a blade, ends of which a treatment with high hardness is applied to, for both cleaning blades in a drum and an intermediate transfer member.

An image forming apparatus includes a detection unit configured to detect a position where a toner image of a color component other than the color component of a misregistration prevention pattern and the toner image of the misregistration prevention pattern overlap each other on a surface of an image carrier; and a control unit configured to control to form the misregistration prevention pattern on the surface of the image carrier except for the overlapping position detected by the detection unit, and not to form the misregistration prevention pattern at the overlapping position on the surface of the image carrier.

An image forming apparatus includes a charging unit for charging an image bearing member, an image forming unit for forming a toner image on the image bearing member that has been charged, and a cleaning unit for contacting the image bearing member to clean the surface of the image bearing member. In the apparatus, a ratio of a period wherein the image bearing member is moved without being charged to a period wherein the image bearing member is moved while being charged, is controlled to be a predetermined value or greater.
