A vehicle control device controls automated driving of a vehicle and includes a processor configured to execute a program to acquire map information including information of lanes and reference information for identifying a position of the vehicle, determine a travel lane in which the vehicle is traveling in the map information based on the acquired reference information; determine lane candidates in which the vehicle is traveling in the map information based on the reference information when the travel lane has not been identified, and maintain a current control level of the automated driving when an event in which the control level needs to be changed does not occur in any one of the lane candidates and lower the control level when the event occurs in at least one of the lane candidates.

A position determination device comprises a camera to capture an image ahead of a vehicle. The position determination device acquires position of the vehicle; estimates a first position of the vehicle, based on a position of a lane included in the image, the position of the vehicle that has been acquired, and map information; estimates a second position of the vehicle, based on a position of the vehicle that was determined most recently and a movement amount of the vehicle; and synthesizes the first position and the second position to determine the position of the vehicle, wherein the device weights the second position while the vehicle is traveling at a speed equal to or lower than a predetermined speed, and synthesizes the first position and the second position.

A vehicle control system includes an imaging device configured to capture an image of a travel route on which a vehicle is traveling, and a delimiting line estimating unit configured to estimate a position of a delimiting line on the travel route based on the image captured by the imaging device. The delimiting line estimating unit is configured to generate a first delimiting point sequence, generate a second delimiting point sequence that is offset rearward in a vehicle travel direction with respect to the first delimiting point sequence, generate a corrected delimiting point sequence based on the first delimiting point sequence and the second delimiting point sequence, and estimate the position of the delimiting line on the travel route based on the corrected delimiting point sequence.

The mode determiner switches the driving mode of the vehicle to a driving mode in which a task imposed on the occupant of the vehicle is heavier than that of a driving mode which is being performed by the vehicle when switching conditions for switching the driving mode of the vehicle are satisfied after the position of the vehicle has become unable to be recognized.

The own lane identifying unit is configured to identify one lane as an own lane on a map in a case where the one lane is an only lane present in a specific area on the map, compare a type of a delimiting line of a captured own lane with types of delimiting lines of a plurality of lanes on the map in a case where the plurality of lanes are present in the specific area on the map, and identify one of the plurality of lanes on the map as the own lane on the map in a case where the type of the delimiting line of the captured own lane matches only a type of a delimiting line of the one of the plurality of lanes on the map.
