The present invention relates to a method of producing a sulfur-containing transparent polymer by polymerizing a composition containing a (metha)acrylate monomer having sulfur in its molecule, characterized by radical polymerization of a composition containing at least one compound selected from radical chain transfer compounds and radical trapping compounds in an amount of 0.1 to 7.0% by weight of the total amount of the composition. The polymer obtained by polymerization is less colored. The method can provide a polymer having a high total light transmittance, a high refractive index and a light weight and is hardly yellowed during use.

In an electro-optical element comprising a liquid crystal, such as a smectic liquid crystal, sealed between two substrates arranged to confront each other with a space of an order of .mu.m, if spacer particles for regulating the space between the substrates and phenol type curing agent-incorporated epoxy resin adhesive particles for moderating stresses generated by distortions or warps of the substrates are arranged in the space between the substrates, a minute uniform space, especially a uniform space of 1 to 3 .mu.m effective for a ferroelectric liquid crystal, can be maintained between the substrates. In this structure, alignmental films are not disturbed at all. Furthermore, even if a nematic or super-twist liquid crystal is used, a uniform space can be stably maintained between the substrates.

Liquid crystal electro-optical element and process for preparation

Powdery adhesive and process for preparation thereof

Organic spherical particles having a cationic group and an average particle size of 0.1-1000 .mu.m, which particles have adsorbed on the surface at least one modifier selected from a compound having an anionic group, fine particles having an anionic group and negatively chargeable fine particles, and also a process for their production, wherein where the particles are composed of an epoxy type resin cured with an amine type curing agent, they can satisfactorily adsorb the aforesaid substance. As a result of the adsorption of the aforesaid substance to the particles, the static build-up properties, electrical conductivity, color shade, and other properties of the particles may be modified, and also it is possible to impart ultraviolet light absorbing ability and to prevent blocking between the particles. These particles may be employed as formulation ingredients for cosmetics, paints, electrostatic copier toners etc.

Modified fine particles and a process for their production

A spherical particulate adhesive comprising particles of a partially amine cured epoxy resin as the main component and having an average particle size of 0.3 to 500 .mu.m, in which particles of the epoxy resin contain an at least partially compatible agent homogeneously in the interior thereof. This adhesive is a heat-curable adhesive and has a very high bonding force. After bonding, the adhesive is chemically stable and is especially preferably used for bonding in the field of electronic material, such as liquid crystal display devices, which are apt to be degraded by impurities and for which high-precision bonding is required.

Epoxy type spherical particulate adhesive and process for preparation

Spherical particles of cured epoxy resin having an average size not larger than 50 .mu.m can be produced by adding a water-soluble amine curing agent to an emulsion of uncured epoxy resin. It is possible to prepare spherical particles incorporating a UV absorber or inorganic particles, to dye these particles with an acid dye, and to subject them to electroless plating. In addition, after-treatment of the cured particles enhances their heat resistance and destroys the epoxide groups left unreacted inside each particle. These particles may be used as an ingredient of cosmetic and coating compositions, as a toner of electrostatic copiers, and for other applications.
