Provided is a molybdenum sulfide that is ribbon-shaped and particularly suitable for a hydrogen generation catalyst. Disclosed are a ribbon-shaped molybdenum sulfide, in which 50 particles as measured by observation with a scanning electron microscope (SEM) have a shape of, on average, 500 to 10000 nm in length, 10 to 1000 nm in width, and 3 to 200 nm in thickness; a method for producing the ribbon-shaped molybdenum sulfide, including: (1) heating a molybdenum oxide at a temperature of 200 to 1000&#xb0; C. in the presence of a sulfur source; or (2) heating a molybdenum oxide at a temperature of 100 to 800&#xb0; C. in the absence of a sulfur source, and then heating the molybdenum oxide at a temperature of 200 to 1000&#xb0; C. in the presence of a sulfur source; and a hydrogen generation catalyst including the ribbon-shaped molybdenum sulfide.

The present invention allows the production of a polymerizable hyperbranched polyester by introducing polymerizable unsaturated double bonds into the molecular terminals of a hyperbranched polyester polyol (A), which is obtained by condensation polymerization a polyhydroxy monocarboxylic acid in which there are at least two hydroxyl groups, the carbon atom adjacent to the carboxy group is saturated carbon atom, and the hydrogen atoms on said carbon atom are all substituted, by reacting the hyperbranched polyester polyol (A) and an alkyl ester of a carboxylic acid having a polymerizable unsaturated double bond (B) by a transesterification in the presence of at least one type of transesterification catalyst (C) selected from the group consisting of a dialkyl tin oxide and a stanoxane, without causing side reactions such as nucleophilic addition reactions of terminal hydroxyl groups to polymerizable unsaturated double bonds of the hyperbranched polyester polyol (A), or thermal polymerization of the polymerizable unsaturated double bonds. The polymerizable hyperbranched polyester can be produced at high efficiency using a transesterification that uses as an alkyl ester of a carboxylic acid having a polymerizable unsaturated double bond (B), which is easily obtained as an industrial raw material, and without altering the original backbone structure of the molecular chains of the hyperbranched polyester polyol (A) by hydrolysis and so forth.

Process for producing polymerizable polybranched polyester

A partially silylated organosilicic acid polymer is disclosed. The polymer has a weight average molecular weight of from 2,000 to 6,000 and is prepared by silylating a purified sodium silicate having an M.sub.w /M.sub.n ratio of not more than 1.8.

Disclosed are an electrophotographic toner which is a spherical particle comprising a binder resin having encapsulated therein a colorant and has a volume average particle size of from 3 to 12 .mu.m, the binder resin being a non-crosslinked styrene-acrylic resin having an acid value of from 30 to 120, containing from 5 to 60% by weight of the components having a molecular weight in terms of polystyrene by gel permeation chromatography of 200,000 or more and having a ratio (Mw/Mn) of the weight-average molecular weight Mw to the number-average molecular weight Mn of from 4 to 30; and a process for preparing an electrophotographic toner comprising spherical particles having a volume average grain size of from 3 to 12 .mu.m, the process comprising mixing a mixture comprising the above-described resin, a colorant, a wax and an organic solvent as essential components with an aqueous medium in the presence of a neutralizer in an amount sufficiently large to render the resin self-emulsifiable to effect phase inversion emulsification, thereby producing particles each comprising a binder resin having encapsulated therein a colorant and a wax in the liquid medium, and separating and drying the particles. The toner obtained by the present invention is improved in the thermal fixing characteristics and the environmental stability of charging, exhibits a wide fixing temperature width at the heated roll fixing and has excellent triboelectricity.

Electrophotographic toner and process for the preparation thereof

A high-molecular weight polyorganosilyl silicate having a weight-average molecular weight of 30,000 to 2,000,000 on polystyrene conversion in which the repeating units form a ladder structure through siloxane bonding, and the ladder structures are further bonded together through siloxane bonding is disclosed. Also disclosed is a process for producing the polymer. The polymer is useful as a coating material or a film-forming material to provide a coating film or a film having excellent electrical characteristics, weather resistance, adhesion, water repellency, processability and scratch resistance.
