A sensor device includes a housing that has a sensor element inserted therein and holds the sensor element such that a detection unit is positioned at the tip end thereof in the axial direction, and an element cover disposed coaxially with the tip end. A tip surface of the outer cover has a plurality of outer tip surface holes provided outward from positions opposing the outer periphery of an inner tip surface hole. The tip surface of the outer cover includes a central portion which protrudes towards the inner tip surface hole, an outer peripheral portion in which the outer tip surface holes are formed and which is positioned farther toward the tip end than is the central portion, and an inclined surface connects the central portion to the outer tip surface holes.

Sensor device having an element cover including inner and outer covers

A sensor device includes an element cover at the tip end of a housing, retaining a sensor element. An outer cover is provided with outer side holes, with the tip position of the outer side holes being farther toward the tip end than is the tip position of an inner cover, and a first flow passage having a gas flow direction that is at right angles to the axial direction is formed at the inner side of the outer cover. An inner side hole in the inner cover is open to a second flow passage provided between the side surfaces of the inner cover and the outer cover, and a detection surface of the sensor element is located on an extension line in an extension direction of a guide member which extends obliquely into the interior of the inner cover from the tip-position edge of the inner side hole.

Sensor device

A temperature sensor includes a temperature detector, an element electrode wire, a lead wire, and an intermediate member. Each of the lead wire and the intermediate member is made of a Ni-based alloy or an Fe-based alloy. The element electrode wire and the intermediate member are welded together in such a manner that opposing surfaces, facing each other abut against each other to constitute an element-side weld. The intermediate member and the lead wire are welded together such that they overlap each other in a longitudinal direction Z to constitute a lead-side weld. The lead wire is extended closer to the temperature detector than the element-side weld is located. A gap between the element electrode wire and the lead wire at least in the longitudinal direction Z is filled with a filler. The element electrode wire, the element-side weld, and the lead wire are fixed to one another by the filler.

Temperature sensor

A spark plug is disclosed as having a metal shell, a porcelain insulator fixedly secured to the metal shell, a center electrode and a ground electrode providing a spark discharge gap with the center electrode. The porcelain insulator has a through-bore partially exposed from an end face of the ground electrode in a surface area S, as viewed from a distal end of the spark plug, and having a total surface area Sfalling in the relationship S/S&#x2266;0.3. The center electrode protrudes from the porcelain insulator with a protruding length L under the relationship L&#x2266;0.6 mm. A minimal value Hmin and a maximal value Hmax in distance between the ground electrode and the end face of the porcelain insulator lies in the relationship Hmax/Hmin&#x2266;1.3. Wall thickness T between the through-bore and an outer periphery of the porcelain insulator lies in the relationship T&#x2266;0.7 mm.

Spark plug for internal combustion engine and related manufacturing method

A spark plug according to the invention has a length and an outer side surface. The outer side surface includes a plurality of closed band-shaped regions arranged in the lengthwise direction of the spark plug, within each of which a plurality of identical marks, which represent the same piece of information concerning the spark plug, are formed at predetermined intervals in a circumferential direction of the spark plug. Further, the marks within each of the regions represent the piece of information different from that represented by the marks within any other one of the regions, and each of the marks within each of the regions is aligned in the lengthwise direction of the spark plug with one of the marks within any other one of the regions. With such formation of marks, the spark plug can be accurately identified without rotating it to a specific position during the identification process.
