The information processing apparatus is capable of communicating with an image forming apparatus that forms an image using toner supplied from a toner container mounted thereon. A reception unit receives first information on a consumption amount of the toner by the image forming apparatus. A controller acquires date information on a designated date, and determines second information on a consumption amount of the toner by the designated date, based on the first information in an amount corresponding to a predetermined number of days before a certain day before the designated date.

An image reading apparatus includes a transparent member, reading portion, a pattern, and a processor. The processor extracts a frequency component in an image of the pattern read by the reading portion in a period in which the reading portion reads an image of an original placed on the transparent member while moving in a first direction. The processor calculates a frequency component from the extracted frequency component in another position different from the position, in which the pattern is provided, with respect to the second direction crossing the first direction. An image forming apparatus transfers toner images of respective colors, formed on photosensitive drums, onto an intermediate transfer belt conveyed in a predetermined direction to thereby form a color toner image. A steering roller tilts the intermediate transfer belt in a direction orthogonal to the conveying direction. A first sensor detects a position of a belt lateral end of the belt, and when controlling driving of the steering roller based on a detection result of the first sensor, a controller performs predetermined filtering on the detection result, to thereby control the driving of the steering roller according to the detection result subjected to the predetermined filtering.

An image forming apparatus includes a speed reduction device including a first gear and a second gear meshing each other. A received alternate pattern segment is demodulated by a DEM (13), and a power of a demodulated baseband signal is calculated by a power calculator (15). The calculated power is multiplied with a predetermined constant .alpha. by a constant multiplier (16). A power of a signal obtained by removing a frequency component (1/2) the baud rate frequency from the baseband signal output from a BEF (14) is calculated by a power calculator (15'). An adder/subtracter (17) compares the powers by subtracting the two signals, and the sign of the comparison result is discriminated by a sign discriminator (19), thereby detecting an alternate pattern segment and the start point of a pseudo pattern sequence. Furthermore, a count value of a counter (110) is monitored, and when a detection state of an alternate pattern segment continues for a predetermined period of time, it is determined that an alternate pattern segment is detected in practice. In the above arrangement, an alternate pattern signal can be reliably and precisely detected without causing an erroneous detection even when the level of a reception signal abruptly changes. Alternatively, a pseudo random sequence can be reliably and precisely detected without causing an erroneous detection even for a reception signal having a low S/N ratio.
