A vehicle includes an engine, a rotating electric machine, a high-voltage power line, a high-voltage battery, an inverter, a capacitor, an electronic control unit, a low-voltage battery, an alternator, and a low-voltage power line. The capacitor is connected to the high-voltage power line. The electronic control unit is configured to control the engine such that the engine is operated and the alternator supplies electric power to the low-voltage power line in a case where the possibility of the occurrence of a collision of the vehicle is detected. The electronic control unit is configured to perform control such that the capacitor discharges a residual electric charge in a case where the possibility of the occurrence of the collision of the vehicle is detected or in a case where the occurrence of the collision of the vehicle is detected.

Energy efficiency can be improved since the alternator is efficiently driven.

After an elapse of a predetermined time period or after a run of a predetermined distance, a power output system of the present invention heats a catalytic converter with a catalyst heater while enabling an engine to be driven under a driving condition suitable for checking a catalyst packed in the catalytic converter for deterioration of the catalytic function. The power output system then measures a variation in temperature of the catalyst in this state and determines whether or not the variation is within a normal range, thereby detecting the deteriorating catalytic function of the catalyst, that is, abnormality of the catalytic converter. This structure enables the power output system to realize accurate detection of abnormality of the catalytic converter at a sufficient frequency. During the measurement of the temperature change of the catalyst, an assist motor is driven and controlled to output a torque Td* corresponding to a step-on amount of an accelerator pedal to a drive shaft. This enables a desired power to be output to the drive shaft even during the course of the abnormality detection. Detection of abnormalities in an engine supercharger and exhaust gas recirculation system is also provided.

Apparatus for detecting abnormality in internal combustion

In an internal combustion engine of a hybrid vehicle, a transient driving state occurs at a high frequency. It is rather difficult to control the quantity of fuel due to an adhesion of the fuel on the wall surface in the transient driving state. This results in insufficient reduction of the emission in the transient driving state. The object is thus to provide a vehicle control apparatus that can realize the effective reduction of emission. The vehicle control apparatus receives vehicle information (S200) and determines, based on the input vehicle information, whether or not the state of the vehicle should be shifted from either a combination mode or an internal combustion engine mode to a motor mode, that is, whether or not operation of an internal combustion engine EG is going to stop (S202). When such a mode shift is required, it is determined whether or not a specific warm-up condition is satisfied (S204). The specific warm-up condition is used as a criterion for determining whether or not a fuel-air intake system of the internal combustion engine EG shows a sufficient increase in temperature based on the data of a cooling water temperature sensor and reaches a stationary state, wherein the amount of fuel injected and supplied into the fuel-air intake system and adhering to the wall surface can be estimated readily. When it is determined that the specific warm-up condition is satisfied, the program exits from the routine. When it is determined that the specific warm-up condition is not fulfilled, on the other hand, a table correction process is carried out (S206) to modify the contents of a mode selection table and change the motor mode to the combination mode.

In response to a requirement for starting an engine (150) (S212), a controller (180) calculates an idle revolving speed Ni that is a target at a starting time and a required amount of the air Qi for maintaining the idle revolving speed Ni (S213). The idle revolving speed Ni and the required amount of the air Qi are respectively set equal to a target engine speed Ne* and a target amount of air intake Q* (S214). The controller (180) sets torque command values Tm1* and Tm2* of first and second motors MG1 and MG2, in order to enable the motors MG1 and MG2 to generate a cranking torque required for revolving the engine (150) at the target revolving speed Ne* (S216 and S218), and controls the first motor MG1 and the second motor MG2 (S220 and S222). The controller (180) subsequently adjusts the amount of air intake Q into the engine (150) to the target amount of air intake Q* by idle speed control (S224). After the revolving speed Ne of the engine (150) and the amount of air intake Q are stabilized, the controller (180) starts fuel injection control and ignition timing control (S230) to start the engine (150). The amount of fuel injection and the ignition timing are determined according to the target engine speed Ne* and the target amount of air intake Q*.
