A storage apparatus coupled to a host device comprises a virtual volume which is a virtual logical volume configured of multiple virtual areas and a pool configured of multiple actual area groups of different performances. A controller manages pool status information which is the information showing which actual area is allocated to which virtual area and access load related to the virtual areas. A management system of the storage apparatus, with reference to the pool status information at multiple points of time from past to present and an access load threshold which is equal to or larger than 1, estimates the used capacity of each actual area group at points of time in the future, calculates the installed/removed amount of each actual area group which is the difference between the estimated used capacity and the current storage capacity, and performs the processing based on the calculated result.

Management system calculating storage capacity to be installed/removed

A physical storage area that is allocated to an unused area of a virtual volume is removed. A management unit sends a request to a server computer to make every piece of data stored in a first logical volume migrate to a second logical volume. The server reads all the data out of the first logical volume and writes the data in the second logical volume. A storage system that includes the first logical volume and the second logical volume allocates a physical storage area to an area of the second logical volume where the data is to be written, and writes the data in the allocated physical storage area. The storage system then deletes the first logical volume.

Computer system and control method therefor

A storage system comprises multiple virtual volumes (VVOLs) and multiple pools. Each pool is configured of multiple actual area groups of different performances. The storage system accesses actual areas assigned to virtual areas identified by access commands from an access source. A controller manages pool condition information which is the information showing which actual area is assigned to which virtual area and the access load related to the virtual areas. The management system of the storage system comprises management information showing a performance requirement and a performance for each VVOL. The performance of a VVOL is the performance identified with reference to the pool condition information. The management system, with reference to the management information, identifies a VVOL whose condition is inappropriate and, for changing the condition of the identified VVOL from inappropriate to appropriate, performs migration procedure related to the pool made to correspond to the above-mentioned identified VVOL.

A management system, which manages a plurality of storage systems, in a case where belonging to a storage system having a first function constitutes a condition for allocating a plurality of volumes to a host device, retrieves the storage system having the first function from among the plurality of storage systems, selects one or more unallocated logical volumes included in the retrieved storage system, acquires a logical volume capacity included in the selected logical volumes and notifies an output device of the acquired capacity as the capacity allocatable to the host device.

Management computer for managing storage system capacity and storage system capacity management method

Provided is an access right managing method for a resource of a storage system, in which a management computer stores access right definition information of the resource, and resource correspondence information including information on a management program which manages another resource related to the resource managed by the management program. In case of which receiving an updating request of an access right of the resource, the management computer updates an access right based on the updating request of the access right, selects a management program of the resource whose access right is requested to be updated based on the resource correspondence information, transmits an updating request of an access right for a relative resource to a management computer which executes the selected management program, and in case of which the access right updating request of the related resource is received, updates the access right of the relative resource.

Access right managing method for accessing multiple programs

A CPUexecutes a management program B (Pb), from a management program A (Pa) receives authentication information, a request, and a program ID, and determines whether the authentication information is correct. If the authentication information is correct, the CPUacquires the execution authority information of the authenticated user, compares the received information, and determines whether execution authority corresponding to the received program ID is defined. If the CPUdetermines that execution authority corresponding to the received program ID is defined, it established the defined execution authority as the execution authority for the management program B (Pb).

Computer and access control method in a computer

To support a tag information reader to read information from radio communication tags, attached to each of a plurality of structural objects in a plant and to provide the locations of unread radio communication tags, a tag information acquisition unit acquires information on radio communication tags actually read by the tag information reader. Next, an unread tag extraction unit extracts radio communication tags which are a plurality of radio communication tags stored in a tag arrangement data file but from which information cannot be acquired by the tag information acquisition unit, and an unread tag arrangement calculation unit acquires arrangement data on the extracted radio communication tags. The arrangement data on those radio communication tags is sent to a display unit for displaying the radio communication tags.

The storage system of the present invention comprises a plurality of physical storage regions comprising a physical storage region having one or more attributes, and a physical storage region having a plurality of attributes. A prescribed attribute is allocated for each pool constituted from two or more physical storage regions, and each such pool has overlapping physical storage regions, which overlap one another, and non-overlapping physical storage regions, which do not overlap one another. The overlapping physical storage region constitutes two or more pools of the plurality of pools because it has the same plurality of attributes as the plurality of attributes respectively allocated to the plurality of pools, but the non-overlapping physical storage region is not like this, and constitutes only one pool. A controller allocates, to a certain VOL, a non-overlapping physical storage region which is not allocated to this VOL from among a certain pool which is associated to the certain VOL, migrates data inside an overlapping physical storage region which is allocated to this VOL, to the non-overlapping physical storage region, and releases the allocation of the migration-source overlapping physical storage region from this VOL.

Storage system and storage control method

A module evaluation method and system which can quickly determine overall effectiveness of the modular construction method in an automatic manner, taking into account the transportation cost and so on. A module evaluation unit prepares constructed-equipment physical quantity data from constructed-equipment layout data, and determines an in-module unit-rate reduction effect resulted from executing construction work of the constructed equipment in the module in a factory where working efficiency is higher than a field. The module evaluation unit also determines a module transportation cost effect, a module temporary construction cost effect, and a density reduction effect that is resulted from a reduction of density in a space not occupied by a module with application of modularization and efficiency of installation work is increased. The module evaluation unit further determines a field physical-quantity reduction effect resulted from a reduction of physical quantity in the field and from a reduction of various overhead costs with application of the modularization. The determination results are displayed on a display.
