In a construction in which a turbine and an exhaust gas purification catalyst are arranged close to each other, and in which an exhaust gas sensor is arranged in an exhaust passage between the turbine and the exhaust gas purification catalyst, the exhaust gas sensor is suppressed from getting wet with condensed water. In an exhaust system for an internal combustion engine, an exhaust gas sensor is arranged in a circumferential direction of a specific exhaust passage in a position except a range which is reached by a bypass exhaust gas carried away by a turbine swirling flow.

Exhaust system for an internal combustion engine

The internal combustion engine comprising: a catalyst arranged in an exhaust passage and able to store oxygen, a variable valve timing mechanism able to change a valve overlap amount between an intake valve and an exhaust valve, and a fuel supplying means for feeding fuel to the exhaust passage. The fuel supplying means feeds fuel to the exhaust passage only in an initial cycle after scavenging where valve overlap causes air to be expelled from an intake passage through a cylinder to the exhaust passage if such scavenging occurs.

In a control apparatus applied to an internal combustion engine in which when an opening degree of a valve body of a waste gate valve is less than the predetermined opening degree, the extension line intersects a wall surface of an exhaust passage located upstream of the upstream side end face of the exhaust gas purification catalyst, the control apparatus controls the waste gate valve so that at the time of execution of fuel cut off processing, when the temperature of the exhaust gas purification catalyst is less than a predetermined temperature, the valve body is fully closed, whereas when the temperature of the exhaust gas purification catalyst is not less than the predetermined temperature, the opening degree of the valve body is made to a deterioration suppression opening degree which is larger than when the valve body is fully closed and which is smaller than the predetermined opening degree.

Control apparatus for gasoline engine

An internal combustion enginecomprises an air-fuel ratio control device. The air-fuel ratio control device controls the amount of fuel fed to the combustion chamber by feedback control so that the air-fuel ratio detected by the upstream side air-fuel ratio sensor matches the target air-fuel ratio when a blow-through amount of air blown from the intake passage through a cylinder to the exhaust passage due to an occurrence of valve overlap is a reference blow-through amount or less. The air-fuel ratio control device sets the target air-fuel ratio of the inflowing exhaust gas based on the air-fuel ratio detected by the downstream side air-fuel ratio sensor and, without performing the feedback control, feeds the amount of fuel calculated from the target air-fuel ratio to the combustion chamber when the blow-through amount is greater than the reference blow-through amount.

In a control apparatus for use an internal combustion engine in which warming-up time air fuel ratio control is executed, the air fuel ratio of the exhaust gas flowing into the three-way catalyst is changed to an air fuel ratio higher by the predetermined amount, by using as a trigger the timing at which a measured value of an air fuel ratio sensor indicates a rich air fuel ratio. In addition, when the timing at which the measured value of the air fuel ratio sensor indicates the rich air fuel ratio is earlier than a reference timing, the starting-time-rich-air-fuel-ratio in the next and following warming-up time air fuel ratio control is corrected to an air fuel ratio which is higher than that in the current warming-up time air fuel ratio control.

The scavenging control device reduces the valve overlap amount when an air-fuel ratio detected by the downstream side air-fuel ratio sensor changes from less than a lean judged air-fuel ratio leaner than a stoichiometric air-fuel ratio to the lean judged air-fuel ratio or more during scavenging.

An air-fuel ratio control apparatus for an internal combustion engine according to an embodiment of the invention (the present control apparatus) sets a target air-fuel ratio to a target rich air-fuel ratio when it is determined on the basis of the output value Voxs of a downstream air-fuel ratio sensorthat the oxygen adsorption amount of a catalysttends to be excessive, and sets the target air-fuel ratio to a target lean air-fuel ratio when it is determined on the basis of the output value Voxs that the oxygen adsorption amount of the catalysttends to be insufficient. Further, the present control apparatus determines whether or not an operation state in which a large amount of nitrogen oxide flows into the catalystis reached on the basis of 'whether a predetermined condition is fulfilled', and makes the target rich air-fuel ratio obtained when the predetermined condition is fulfilled less than the target rich air-fuel ratio obtained when the predetermined condition is not fulfilled. As a result, the concentration of a reducing agent inside the catalystcan be increased before a large amount of NOx flows into the catalyst. Therefore, when a large amount of NOx flows into the catalyst, most of the NOx can be eliminated.

Air-fuel ratio control device for internal combustion engine

A control device for an internal combustion engine performs rich control when a fuel cutoff operation is terminated and fuel supply to a combustion chamber is restarted, and the engine includes a plurality of the combustion chambers and a fuel supply cycle is repeated. An air-fuel ratio control apparatus of the present invention includes a determination section and a reverse direction correction introducing section. The determination section determines whether or not an output of the downstream air-fuel ratio sensor falls within a predetermined range whose center corresponds to a target value corresponding to the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio. When the output of the downstream air-fuel ratio sensor falls within the predetermined range, the reverse direction correction introducing section temporarily introduces, to an air-fuel ratio correction in a direction requested by the output, an air-fuel ratio correction in a direction opposite to the requested direction.

Air-fuel ratio control apparatus

A control apparatus for an internal combustion engine determines, based on an output value of the downstream air-fuel ratio sensor, an air-fuel ratio of a gas flowing into the catalyst that is set to either a 'target rich ratio' or a 'target lean ratio', and determines a fuel injection amount. Disclosed is an evaporated fuel purge section for introducing an evaporated fuel generated in a fuel tank into an intake passage. Further, the determining apparatus determines that an air-fuel ratio imbalance state among cylinders is occurring, when the imbalance determining parameter is larger than a predetermined threshold. The determining apparatus changes the predetermined threshold in accordance with a mechanical compression ratio of the engine.
