A display apparatus includes a display panel, a panel substrate including a data line driver, a controller connected to the panel substrate, and a connection unit provided in the panel substrate. The controller selects M signal lines from N signal lines (M is a natural number satisfying M&#x2266;N) in accordance with a frame rate of a video data, and transmits M-phase video data to the panel substrate via the selected M signal lines. The data line driver controls the switching circuits of the connection unit in accordance with the frame rate of the video data to connect the M signal lines via which the video data is transmitted, to the data lines, and sequentially selects the M data lines to supply each piece of the video data transmitted via the M signal lines to each pixel connected to the selected M data lines.

A drive control circuit includes a timing controller for detecting a change of a horizontal scanning frequency, a gate voltage generating circuit for generating two kinds of gate-on voltages Va and Vb (Va&#x3c;Vb), and a switch for outputting one of the gate-on voltages Va and Vb from the gate voltage generating circuit in accordance with an output of the timing controller. The timing controller includes a counter for counting the number of clocks for one horizontal period, and a comparator for comparing a count result with a threshold value. When the horizontal scanning frequency is in a normal state, the low gate-on voltage Va is outputted, and when the horizontal scanning frequency exceeds a predetermined threshold value, that is, the count value falls below a threshold value, the high gate-on voltage Vb is outputted.

Driving method and drive control circuit of liquid crystal display device, and liquid crystal display device including the same

A liquid crystal display device includes a panel having pixel electrodes arranged at intersections of a plurality of signal lines via switching elements for transmitting display data and a plurality of scanning lines for transmitting control signals, and a control circuit for controlling the panel. The liquid crystal panel is divided into first pixel regions and second pixel regions adjacent to the first pixel regions. The control circuit carries out impulse driving in which the control signals transmitted to each of the scanning lines are activated two times in one frame period for displaying an image. The control circuit writes the display data in either one of the pixel regions and writes reset data in the other pixel regions when the control signals are activated once of the two times. By writing the reset data in the pixel regions, the display data written in an immediately preceding frame are reset. In consecutive frames, the display data written in the pixel regions are always reset in one frame period. Therefore, blurring in a moving image can be alleviated. Since writing the display data and the reset data is carried out separately in the first pixel regions and in the second pixel regions, flicker is prevented from occurring in a display screen.

Apparatus and method to improve quality of moving image displayed on liquid crystal display device

An interconnect structure for a display device includes a driver from which display data are supplied, and an interconnect material having a plurality of signal lines disposed in parallel through which the display data are supplied from the driver. In the interconnect structure for a display device, the signal lines from which the display data are transmitted via the interconnect material are rearranged such that the display data via the signal lines having a comparatively larger effect of the inductance components and the display data via the signal lines having a comparatively smaller effect of the inductance components in the interconnect material are alternately supplied to adjacent pixels or groups of pixels of the display device. As a result, an image is displayed based on the luminance suitable for the display data.

The liquid crystal display device has a liquid crystal panel in which liquid crystal cells are disposed in intersection areas of scanning lines and data lines, respectively. A picture signal and a synchronous signal are supplied via external terminals, respectively. A timing controller generates a driving timing of the scanning lines and a driving timing of the data lines in response to the synchronous signal. Further, the timing controller varies at least one of the driving timing of the scanning lines and the driving timing of the data lines according to a cycle of the synchronous signal in order to keep a writing time of the picture signal supplied to the liquid crystal cells constant. Therefore, it is possible to keep the writing time constant even when the cycle of the synchronous signal varies, which can prevent the deterioration in display quality.

Polarity patterns (polarity pattern signal POL) are stored in a ROM in a polarity pattern controlling portion. Then, the polarity pattern is changed according to applications of a liquid crystal display panel. Since the polarity pattern is stored in the ROM, the polarity pattern can be changed without modification of a hardware. Also, two sets of polarity patterns or more are stored in the ROM, and then any one polarity pattern can be output according to the application. In addition, the polarity pattern signal POL and image signals RGB are compared with each other, and then the polarity pattern which is to be read from the ROM is switched according to the result.

A drive control circuit supplies a gate voltage so that display quality is not degraded even in a case where a vertical scanning frequency or a horizontal scanning frequency is changed. In a liquid crystal display device in which picture elements are arranged in a matrix form, a fixed time before a display data voltage is supplied to the picture element by a data line and a scan line, a pre-write voltage at a gradation value having a high speed of response to a change in gradation is supplied to the picture element regardless of the gradation value of a picture after response. When the display data voltage is supplied to the picture element, the pre-write voltage is always supplied to the picture element to thereby increase the response speed of liquid crystal constituting the liquid crystal display device regardless of the gradation value of a picture after response, so as to display quickly a picture on a display section.
