In a display apparatus that has a polymer dispersed liquid crystal materialencapsulated in a gap between a completed first substrateand a completed second substrateby using a sealing memberand has a display region M and a peripheral region N in a region where the polymer dispersed liquid crystal materialis encapsulated, a wiring electrodehaving light shielding properties is provided in at least a part of the peripheral region N of the completed second substrate, and an ultraviolet ray transmitting portionthat transmits an ultraviolet ray therethrough is provided in the peripheral region where the wiring electrodeis provided. An ultraviolet ray is applied from the substrate side where the ultraviolet ray transmitting portionis provided to polymerize a monomer in the peripheral region N. The ultraviolet ray transmitting portion is formed of, e.g., a plurality of small holes, and the small holes are dispersedly arranged at equal intervals.

In a liquid crystal display device including a liquid crystal display panel () including a liquid crystal layer () sandwiched between a first substrate () and a second substrate () having transparent electrodes () on inner surfaces opposing to each other, the film thickness of at least one of the transparent electrodes () formed on the first and second substrates () is set so that light passing through the transparent electrode and exhibiting a maximum transmittance has a color within either a region defined by an x value of 0.22 to 0.28 and a y value of 0.21 to 0.31 or a region defined by an x value of 0.28 to 0.34 and a y value of 0.22 to 0.35 in a chromaticity diagram of a CIE 1931 color system using a white light source. This reduces coloring irregularities due to a film thickness error caused during manufacturing of the transparent electrodes to enable performance of uniform display.

A liquid crystal display device is structured in such a manner that plural of liquid crystal display panels each comprised of a liquid crystal layer provided between a pair of transparent substrates which have electrodes disposed on each facing inner surface, and a reflection-type polarizing film is disposed at least on the top surface of the plural liquid crystal display panel, or between the liquid crystal display panels, or on the lowest surface of the plural liquid crystal display panel. The liquid crystal display device comprises a liquid crystal cell with liquid crystals sealed thereinbetween, sandwiched between two transparent substrates having an electrode on each of the inner surfaces thereof facing each other, an absorption-type polarizing film disposed on the visible side of the liquid crystal cell, a reflection-type polarizing film disposed on the side of the liquid crystal cell, opposite from the visible side. The absorption-type polarizing film is a polarizing sheet absorbing a light linearly polarized in the direction orthogonal to the transmission axis thereof while the reflection-type polarizing film is a polarizing sheet reflecting a light linearly polarized in the direction orthogonal to the transmission axis thereof. A light reflection film or a color filter may preferably be disposed under the reflection-type polarizing film. Further, a light diffusing layer or a light diffusing film may preferably be disposed on the visible side of the absorption-type polarizing film.

Reflection color liquid crystal display

A liquid crystal cell ( ) is structured by bonding a first thin substrate ( ) having first electrodes ( ) and a second thick substrate ( ) having second electrodes ( ) together with an anisotropic conductive sealant ( ), sandwiching a liquid crystal layer ( ) therebetween, and providing a color filter ( ) on the thicker substrate ( ). Each first electrode ( ) on the first substrate ( ) and each wiring pattern ( ) connected to the liquid crystal driving IC ( ) on the second substrate ( ) are individually and electrically connected through the anisotropic conductive sealant ( ).

Reflection-type color liquid crystal display device

A liquid crystal display device ( ) comprises two transparent substrates ( ) which are joined to each other via a sealing member ( ) so as to form a gap therebetween, and a liquid crystal layer ( ) which is sealed in the gap and formed of a polymer dispersion liquid crystal or polymer network liquid crystal. There are provided barriers ( ) in the vicinity of both ends of a side ( ) of each seal ( ) between the transparent substrates ( ) where the pouring port ( ) is provided, for preventing the liquid crystal material from turning around into terminal areas ( ) when the liquid crystal material is poured from the poring hole ( ) into the gap ( ), wherein an adhesive force between the barriers ( ) and at least one of the transparent substrates ( ) is weaker than that between the seal ( ) and the transparent substrate. LCD device and method of manufacture thereof

A liquid crystal display panel comprising a liquid crystal cell with liquid crystals sealed therein, sandwiched between two transparent substrates having an electrode on each of the inner surfaces thereof facing each other, a first polarizing film disposed on the visible side of the liquid crystal cell, a second polarizing film disposed on the opposite side of the liquid crystal cell from the visible side, and a light absorbing film disposed on the opposite side of the second polarizing film from the visible side. The first polarizing film is a reflection-type polarizing film reflecting the light linearly polarized in the direction orthogonal to the transmission axis thereof, and the second polarizing film is an absorption-type polarizing film or color polarizing film each absorbing the light linearly polarized in the direction orthogonal to the transmission axis thereof. A transflective reflector and/or a color filter may preferably be disposed between the second polarizing film and a light source.
