An evaporated-fuel processing apparatus including: a sealing valve which is arranged in a communication path between the atmosphere and a fuel tank mounted on a vehicle having an internal combustion engine, and shuts an internal space of the fuel tank off from the atmosphere; an open/close member which covers a fuel filling port of the fuel tank; a refueling-intention-information acquisition unit which acquires information indicating an intention of refueling; and a control unit which issues an opening command for opening the sealing valve when the refueling-intention-information acquisition unit acquires the information indicating an intention of refueling, and allows the open/close member to open when a time elapsed from the moment at which the opening command is issued exceeds a first predetermined time.

Evaporated-fuel processing apparatus

An evaporative emission control system includes a fuel tank, a canister, a normally-closed control valve, a filler pipe, and a breather pipe. The fuel tank is to store fuel. The canister is to adsorb evaporative fuel generated in the fuel tank. The normally-closed control valve is provided in a vapor passage connecting the fuel tank to the canister. The fuel is delivered to the fuel tank through the filler pipe. The breather pipe includes a communicating passage, an opening, and at least one hole. The communicating passage connects the fuel tank to the filler pipe. The opening is provided at a first end of the breather pipe in the fuel tank. The opening is located below a predetermined fuel level in the fuel tank. The at least one hole is located above the predetermined fuel level in the fuel tank.

Evaporative emission control system

An evaporated fuel treatment apparatus including a canister for adsorbing an evaporated fuel in a fuel tank, a control valve at a vapor path communicating with a fuel tank and a canister, has a dead-zone range where a flow of the evaporated fuel is blocked even if an opening angle of the control valve is increased in an open direction from zero opening angle, and allows the evaporated fuel to flow through over the dead-zone range. The control unit increases the opening angle from substantially zero to a predetermined angle in the dead-zone range and stands by prior to the opening control, and increases the opening angle from the predetermined angle upon the opening control. An output value by control unit set in the dead-zone range is compared with a detected value to detect a failure of the control valve.

Evaporated fuel treatment apparatus and method of detecting failure in control valve

A hermetically sealed fuel tank apparatus includes a pressure-resistant fuel tank for storing a fuel therein, the pressure-resistant fuel tank being capable of holding an internal pressure equal to or higher than the atmospheric pressure, a fuel vapor inlet pipe for introducing a fuel vapor produced in the pressure-resistant fuel tank, a canister contained in the pressure-resistant fuel tank and connected to the fuel vapor inlet pipe for adsorbing the fuel vapor, a drain passage through which the canister communicates with external air, and a shutoff valve connected to the drain passage and normally closed to hermetically seal the pressure-resistant fuel tank.

Hermetically sealed fuel tank apparatus

A canister includes a casing made of a material including a polyamide resin. The casing includes a charge port to let in fuel vapor, a purge port to let out desorbed fuel and an atmospheric air port to let in air. Granular adsorbing agent and granular heat storing agent are held in the casing. The adsorbing agent includes a granular activated carbon. The granular heat storing agent is mixed with the granular activated carbon in the casing, and the granular heat storing agent including the material of the casing.

Canister

In a fuel vapor release suppression system for a fuel tank, a main tank and a sub tank communicate with each other, and the sub tank and a canister communicate with each other. When the main tank has a higher temperature, fuel vapor of the main tank is supplied to the sub tank where the fuel vapor is liquefied. When the main tank has a lower temperature, fuel vapor of the sub tank is supplied to the main tank. At this time, low concentration fuel vapor is supplied from the canister to the main tank, thereby accelerating generation of fuel vapor corresponding to sub tank fuel vapor pressure, so that the sub tank fuel vapor pressure decreases. Therefore, liquefaction is accelerated in the sub tank when the main tank temperature increases. Thus, fuel vapor generated in a fuel tank is effectively liquified irrespective of ambient air temperature.

Fuel vapor release suppression system for fuel tank

An evaporated fuel controller for an internal-combustion engine comprises a purge system for purging evaporated fuel generated inside a fuel tank to an intake system of the engine. The controller determines a guard value in accordance with driving conditions of the engine. The guard value is an upper limit of the evaporated fuel. The purge control valve is controlled to prevent the amount of the evaporated fuel from exceeding the guard value. Thus, the amount of the evaporated fuel is controlled so that influence on the air-fuel ratio control is minimized. In one embodiment, the controller further determines a transport lag of the evaporated fuel between the purge control valve and the engine. The controller determines an evaporated fuel amount purged a time period earlier, the time period corresponding to the transport lag. The purge control valve is controlled to prevent the amount of the evaporated fuel from increasing if the evaporated fuel amount purged the time period earlier is close to the guard value.

Controller for controlling an evaporated fuel amount to be purged

A control system for an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The engine is provided with at least one fuel injection valve for injecting fuel supplied from a fuel tank into an intake pipe of the engine. The fuel injection amount is controlled by controlling the valve opening period of the at least one fuel injection valve. A pressure difference between the pressure of fuel to be supplied to the at least one fuel injection valve and the pressure in the fuel tank is controlled such that the difference is at a constant value. The pressure in the fuel tank and the pressure in the intake pipe are detected. A correction amount is calculated according to the pressure in the fuel tank and the pressure in the intake pipe, and the valve opening period of the at least one fuel injection valve is corrected using the calculated correction amount. A required amount of fuel to be supplied to the engine is calculated according to an operating condition of the engine. The change rate of the correction amount is corrected according to the required fuel amount.

Control system for internal combustion engine

A refueling pipe structure of a fuel tank includes a tank body, and an a refueling pipe which is connected to the tank body to extend upwardly therefrom. The refueling pipe is provided at its upper end with a refueling port into which a refueling nozzle can be inserted. The structure includes a flow direction limiting device mounted within the refueling pipe in the vicinity of the refueling port for guiding a fuel flow from a tip end of the refueling nozzle toward an inner surface of the refueling pipe, while limiting the fuel flow in a gyrate direction along the inner surface of the refueling pipe. Thus, the generation of evaporated fuel within the refueling pipe during refueling can be inhibited, and fuel can be smoothly introduced into the tank body.

Refueling pipe structure in fuel tank

A canister system is installed in a vehicle having a body having a substantially closed space defined therein, and a subframe mounted on the body and having a substantially closed space defined therein. An air intake passage is connected to a canister for drawing and delivering fresh air into the canister, and an air exhaust passage is connected to the canister for exhausting air resulting from removal of evaporative fuel components from an evaporative fuel-air mixture by adsorption of the evaporative fuel components by the canister into the atmosphere. An open end of the air intake passage remote from the canister is formed in the body of the vehicle, and an open end of the air exhaust passage remote from the canister is formed in the subframe.

Canister system

An evaporative fuel-processing system for an internal combustion engine for use in a vehicle. A passage extends between the fuel tank and the intake passage, for guiding evaporative fuel generated in the fuel tank, for processing, across which a canister is arranged. A first passage and a second passage are connected to the canister. A first valve is arranged across the first passage to allow air to flow into the canister through the first passage and inhibit air containing evaporative fuel from being discharged from the canister through the first passage. A second valve is arranged across the second passage to inhibit air from flowing into the canister through the second passage and allow air containing evaporative fuel to be discharged from the canister through the second passage. A filter is arranged in the first passage.

Evaporative fuel-processing system for internal combustion engines for

A vaporized fuel control valve for a fuel tank containing fuel to be supplied to an internal combustion engine, having a casing fastened to an upper surface of the fuel tank, and a float valve is housed in the casing such that it moves upward toward a seat in response to fuel level in the fuel tank. A diaphragm valve having a diaphragm is placed in the casing above the float valve for separating an interior of the casing to a first chamber communicating with a filler pipe of the fuel tank, and a second chamber communicating with the fuel tank through the float valve. The diaphragm valve opens to connect the second chamber with a canister such that vaporized fuel forced out of the fuel tank flows along a path through the float valve to the canister when the first chamber is supplied with atmospheric pressure, unless the float valve seats on the seat. In the valve, an intercepter such as a filter is placed in the path to intercept a fuel spray produced due to an impact when the float valve has seated on the seat, so as the fuel spray not to adhere to the diaphragm. As the interceptor, various partitions different in shape are used. With the arrangement, adherence of sprayed fuel, which otherwise degrades the diaphragm, is prevented.

Vaporized fuel control valve for fuel tank of internal combustion engine

A canister is comprised of a casing including a top wall, a vertical wall, first and second chambers formed in the casing and each accommodating an adsorbent, and a partition member partitioning the first and second chambers from each other. A plurality of first protuberances are formed on the inner surface of the top wall at a portion thereof facing toward the first chamber, and a plurality of second protuberances on the inner surface of the vertical wall at a portion thereof facing toward the first chamber. First and second filters are mounted in the first chamber in a fashion abutting on the plurality of the first and second protuberances, respectively. A first space is defined in the top wall between the first filter and the portion of the inner surface of the top wall, and a second space is defined in the vertical wall between the second filter and the portion of the inner surface of the vertical surface and communicates with the first space. A charging port and a purging port are each formed in the top wall at a location corresponding to the first chamber and each open into the first space. An atmospheric air port is formed in the top wall at a location corresponding to the second chamber.

Canister and evaporative fuel-processing system employing same

A fuel tank for an automotive vehicle has a tank body for storing fuel. A filler pipe is connected to the tank body. A fuel outlet port device is located within the tank body and connected to an end of the filler pipe. The fuel outlet port device has an outwardly facing fuel outlet opening from which fuel supplied through the filler pipe flows out into the body, and a fuel trap for storing part of the fuel supplied through the filler pipe to thereby prevent evaporative fuel generated within the tank body from flowing into the filler pipe. An evaporative emission control system is also provided, which incorporates the fuel tank.

Fuel tank for automotive vehicles and evaporative emission control

An evaporative fuel-processing system for an internal combustion engine comprises an evaporative emission control system including a canister having an air inlet port formed therein for introducing atmosphere into the canister and accommodating an adsorbent for adsorbing evaporative fuel generated in the fuel tank. A charging passage connects between the canister and the fuel tank. A two-way valve is arranged across the charging passage. A purging passage connects between the canister and the intake system. A purge control valve is arranged across the purging passage. An ECU carries out leak-checking of the evaporative emission control system. A negative pressure responsive-type bypass valve is arranged across a bypass passage bypassing the two-way valve. A negative pressure responsive-type vent shut valve is disposed to open and close the air inlet port of the canister. The ECU controls the bypass valve and the vent shut valve to open and close, by means of negative pressure developed within the intake system.
