An optical connection apparatus comprising a prism that extracts N&#xd7;M beams of outgoing light from an optical circuit, a two-dimensional GRIN lens array of N&#xd7;M GRIN lenses, a spacer, having a thickness according to the optical path length in the prism, that transmits N&#xd7;M outgoing beams from the two-dimensional GRIN lens array, and a two-dimensional fiber array that causes the N&#xd7;M beams to be incident on optical fibers, the ends of optical fibers being disposed at the focal point of each of the beams transmitted through the spacer.

A first disclosure is an optical fiber member equipped with two holding members that hold an optical fiber such that an end surface of the optical fiber is located on one end and a curving portion having a coat of the optical fiber is curved to be extended at another end; the holding members are provided with holding flat portions that sandwich an end portion of the optical fiber where the coat is removed such that the end surface of the optical fiber is located on the one end; at least any of the holding flat portions has an aligning groove to fix a position of the end portion of the optical fiber; the holding member is provided with a curved surface at a position adjacent to the curving portion in the extending direction D; and the two holding members are equal in thermal expansion coefficient.

The head end surface of an optical fiber () and the head end surface of an optical fiber () are butted to each other in an alignment member () of an adapter (). In the butting, because one of the members clasping the optical fiber () is a plate () that is short, the optical fiber () is bent and buckled between the left end of the short plate and the right end of the alignment member. Members clasping the optical fiber () are a long plate () and a V-grooved base plate (), and the optical fiber () is therefore horizontally fixed between each of right ends of the long plate and of the V-grooved base plate () and the left end of the alignment member. Optical connector

Provided is a device for removing coating on an optical fiber. The device has a cutting depth limiting surface disposed on a receiver body and a cutting blade attached between a pusher body and a fixing block. The cutting blade is made from plastics and has a specified bending elasticity. An optical fiber is inserted between the cutting blade and the limiting surface. During operation, the cutting blade cuts into a covering on the optical fiber. A high precision in arranging the cutting blade is not required.

Device for removing coating on optical fiber

There is provided an optical connector device which prevents leakage of light until right before connectors are connected to each other and is small-sized by a reduction in space for housing shutters. The optical connector device is an optical connector device comprising a first optical connector and a second optical connector. When shutters for shutting out light from the optical connectors are collided with each other, the shutters move to positions where they do not shut out the light. Therefore, the first optical connector and the second optical connector are connected to each other. After moving, the shutter of the first optical connector and the shutter of the second optical connector are inserted into the second optical connector while remaining contacting each other.

The present invention provides an optical interconnection apparatus free from attaching, fixing or adhering when come into contact with each other or with another material, and easy to handle. The optical interconnection apparatus according to the invention comprises a substrate (), a protective resin layer () composed of a silicone based rubber-like or gel-like material on one side or both sides of said substrate, and plural optical fibers () which are routed two-dimensionally routed on the substrate and provided at ends thereof with end portions () adapted to permit optical interconnections, and said optical fibers being held in place by said protective resin layer, wherein a non-tacky surface layer () is provided on the surface of said protective resin layer. The non-tacky surface layer is preferred to be composed of a silicone-based material and having a kinetic friction coefficient of 3.0 or less.

An optical fiber ribbonizing apparatus is disclosed which arranges a plurality of optical fibers in parallel, applies a resin to peripheries of the plurality of optical fibers, and hardens the resin to form the optical fibers into a ribbon. The apparatus comprises a ribbonizing jig integrally including an optical fiber aligning mechanism for aligning the plurality of optical fibers in parallel, a resin applying mechanism for applying the resin to the optical fibers aligned by the fiber aligning mechanism and a resin hardening device for hardening the resin applied to the optical fibers by the resin applying mechanism, the optical fiber aligning mechanism, the resin applying mechanism and the resin hardening device being arranged in a line in an optical fiber inserting direction, and movement mechanism for moving at least one of the ribbonizing jig and the optical fibers in a predetermined direction relative to the other.

This invention provides optical interconnection apparatus, which permit easy optical interconnections without a loss in the intactness of a routing pattern of optical fibers, and also their fabrication processes. An optical interconnection apparatus according to this invention has a base film having a two-dimensional plane, plural optical fibers routed on the base film an edge-dam arranged along or in a vicinity of a peripheral edge of the base film, a protective resin layer holding in place and protecting the plural optical fibers routed on the two-dimensional plane of the base film, and end portions located at opposite ends of the optical fibers and adapted to permit optical interconnections. The protective resin layer is formed, for example, by filling a resin material inside the edge-dam arranged along or in the vicinity of the peripheral edge of the base film and then solidifying it.

An optical fiber ribbon includes a plurality of optical fibers arranged in a row and an outer coating formed around the optical fibers. Each of the optical fibers has a core, a cladding, and a non-strippable thin coating made of synthetic resin with a Young's modulus of 50 kg/mm,to 250 kg/mm,at room temperature and coated around the cladding. The concentricity of the core to the diameter of the non-strippable thin coating is 1 &mgr;m or less.

Optical fiber

A laser magnetic immunoassay (LMIA) technique is presented which combines the high detection sensitivity of the radioimmunoassay (RIA) technique with the simplicity of particle agglutination (PA) technique. The LMIA technique dispenses with the separation step of bound and free species (B/F separation), yet provides detectivity of the order of picogram of viral species per milliliter of analyte solution. The procedure includes of the steps of: preparing a superparamagnetic-labeled body of antigen or antibody; subjecting a specimen sample and the magnetic-labeled body to a specific immunoreaction to produce a reacted body; subjecting the reacted body containing both bound and free species to a spot magnetic field gradient; irradiating the spot with a laser beam; measuring the intensity of the outgoing light from the spot; and making a quantitative determination of the virus according to the time difference in the outgoing light signals generated by bound and free species.
