An image forming apparatus includes an image forming device configured to form a first image on a first side of a recording medium and a second image on a second side of the recording medium, a position detector configured to detect respective positions of the first and second images, and a controller configured to perform, based on detection results obtained by the position detector, at least one of an image position correction by matching the first and second images and a magnification error correction by calculating and correcting a magnification error of one of the first and second images relative to the other. A program product used in the image forming apparatus includes a method of forming the first image and the second image, detecting the respective positions of the first and second images, and matching a position or a size of the first and second images.

A sheet conveying device, which is incorporated in an image forming apparatus, includes a pair of sheet holding rollers and a regulator. The pair of sheet holding rollers disposed along a sheet conveying path rotates and conveys the recording medium while holding a recording medium in a nip region thereof. The pair of sheet holding rollers includes a stopper that rotates with the pair of sheet holding rollers between a closing position at which the sheet conveying path is closed and an opening position at which the sheet conveying path is open. The regulator is movably disposed between a contact position and a retracted position with respect to the pair of sheet holding rollers. The pair of sheet holding rollers corrects a positional shift of the recording medium in the sheet conveying direction with the stopper at the closing position, and further conveys the recording medium after correction.

A sheet conveying device, which is incorporated in an image forming apparatus, includes a sheet holding and conveying roller pair having two rollers to convey a sheet while holding the sheet between the two rollers at a nip where the two rollers contact each other, and a gate member disposed movable with rotation of the sheet holding and conveying roller pair to correct skew of the sheet in a sheet conveying direction when a leading end of the sheet in the sheet conveying direction abuts against the gate member. The gate member has a contact surface against which the sheet abuts. The contact surface of the gate member is disposed upstream from the nip of the sheet holding and conveying roller pair in the sheet conveying direction. A setting position of the contact surface is adjusted according to thickness of the sheet.
