An orthopedic fixation device (e.g., an intramedullary ('IM') nail or bone plate) including a lag screw and a compression screw, the compression screw being nested with the lag screw. In accordance with one or more features of the present disclosure, the compression screw may include a partially non-threaded medial segment, an enlarged diameter, and/or a cannulated bore. In addition, and/or alternatively, the lag screw may be provided as an integrated assembly including a lag screw and an outer sleeve to enable the lag screw to telescope or slide relative to the outer sleeve and IM nail.

Orthopedic fixation device with lag screw and compression screw

A bone plate incorporating a length adjusting elongate hole formed in a shaft portion thereof, along with corresponding methods of use. In one embodiment, the length adjusting elongate hole is configured to receive one or more bone fixation devices (e.g., bone screws). In use, the bone fixation device positioned within the length adjusting elongate hole may be partially loosened, without removal, to enable the patient's bone to be adjusted (e.g., loosening the bone fixation device within the length adjusting elongate hole allows the surgeon to adjust the position of the patient's bone, and hence the bone fixation device coupled thereto, relative to the bone plate). Once properly adjusted, the bone fixation device positioned within the length adjusting elongate hole may be retightened. In various embodiments, the length adjusting elongate hole is configured so that, in use, each of the plurality of bone fixation openings remains available to a surgeon.

Periprosthetic bone plates are disclosed including, for example, a periprosthetic distal femur plate. In use, the bone plate is configured for use in periprosthetic fractures. That is, the bone plate includes one or more features to facilitate positioning and securement of the bone plate to a patient's bone that previously received a surgically implanted orthopedic implant such as, for example, an intramedullary nail, a hip prosthesis, a knee prosthesis, etc. In use, the one or more features are designed and configured to facilitate avoidance of the previous surgically implanted orthopedic implant. In addition, the bone plate is configured to facilitate percutaneous insertion of the bone plate against the patient's bone while minimizing soft tissue irritation. In addition, and/or alternatively, the bone plate is configured to provide improved contouring to facilitate better positioning of the bone plate against the patient's bone (e.g., better contouring adjacent patient's greater trochanter).

Periprosthetic bone plate

An assembly and method are disclosed. The assembly includes an orthopaedic implant and an active compression member. The implant has a compression screw hole with a step and the active compression member includes an outer tube and an inner slide. The tube and slide allow the proximal end portion and the distal end portion to move relative to one another. The method includes inserting a guide wire, placing a drill over the guide wire and drilling into a femur, tapping the drilled hole, using a compression device to reduce the fracture using the orthopaedic implant step, and inserting one or more active compression members into the tapped hole.

Active fracture compression implants

An orthopaedic implant for use with a fastener having at least one of threads and grooves includes a body defining a long axis. The body includes an inner wall defining an elongated slot. The inner wall includes a pair of opposing walls and a single projection disposed on the inner wall. When the fastener is inserted into the slot, the single projection slidably fits within a groove of the fastener to limit sliding of the implant over the fastener along an axis substantially transverse to the long axis and to permit sliding of the implant over the fastener along the long axis.

Systems, devices and methods are disclosed for limiting compression of a fracture imposed by a lag screw of a fixation system that includes a fixation device, a lag screw and a compression screw. The disclosed devices, systems and methods prevent over-compression of a fracture by a lag screw caused by over rotation of the compression screw. Specifically, implementations of a lag screw driver and a compression screw driver are provided whereby an engagement between the lag screw driver and compression screw driver prevents any further lateral movement of the lag screw, thereby providing a complete stop to further advancement of the lag screw and any additional compression.

Controlling bone compression

An orthopaedic implant includes a body being elongated in a longitudinal direction and having an outer wall, one or more openings through the outer wall, and a cannulation disposed along a length of the body and defined by the outer wall, the cannulation being non-uniform along the longitudinal direction, wherein the cannulation is configured such that a moment of inertia of the implant is substantially uniform along the longitudinal direction.

An orthopedic implant including a body defining at least one landmark and a probe comprising a sensor spaced apart from the at least one landmark a set distance. The probe and sensor being releasably fixed to the body of the implant to limit movement of the sensor relative to the at least one landmark.

Orthopaedic implants

Systems, devices and methods are disclosed for treating fractures and other bone maladies. The systems, devices and methods may include one or both of a stabilizing structure, such as an implant, bone plate, or other device and a fastening assembly, such as an engaging member and a compression member. The stabilizing structure in some embodiments has a proximal section with a transverse aperture and a cross-section that may be shaped to more accurately conform to the anatomical shape of cortical bone and to provide additional strength and robustness in its lateral portions, preferably without requiring significant additional material. The fastening assembly may be received to slide, in a controlled way, in the transverse aperture of the stabilizing structure. In some embodiments, the engaging member and the compression member are configured so that the compression member interacts at least indirectly with the stabilizing structure and a portion of the engaging member to enable controlled movement between the first and second bone fragments. This configuration is useful for, among other things, compressing a fracture.

Orthopaedic plate and screw assembly

Treating fractures using one or both of an implant, such as an intramedullary nail, and a fastening assembly, such as a lag screw and compression screw assembly. The implant in some implementations has a proximal section with a transverse aperture having a non-circular cross-section that may be shaped to selectively constrain the fastening assembly within the transverse aperture. Two or more components of the fastening assembly may be received to slide, in a controlled way, in the transverse aperture of the implant, and to cooperate to resist a force moment applied thereto.
