A calculation method includes the steps of: setting a moving condition about the respective wire materials; regarding cross-sectional shapes of the wire materials as a plurality of circles; assuming a comprehensive circle containing the circles; defining a target circle which is slightly smaller than the comprehensive circle; searching for a destination position into which the circles excluding an insertion-tried circle is moved as farther as possible from the insertion-tried circle; inserting the insertion-tried circle into a space within the target circle; defining a new target circle that is slightly smaller than the present target circle when all the insertion-tried circle is inserted in the target circle, and returning to the searching step; repetitively performing the defining step, the searching step, the insertion step, and defining step of the new target circle for reducing the comprehensive circle; and determining information about positions of the comprehensive circle and the circles.

A wire harness wiring path design aiding apparatus and method. The apparatus includes a device for storing data of a minimum bending radius of the wire harness and a device for checking if the designed wiring path is valid by comparing wire harness wiring path data with the minimum bending radius data. A wire harness design aiding apparatus for designing a wire harness includes: a display unit for three dimensionally displaying an object on which the wire harness is to be arranged and the wire harness on a CAD display in a state that two points of the wire harness is constrained; a guide line setting unit for setting, based on a constraining direction of the wire harness with respect to the object, guide lines which are intersection points of a guide plane which is parallel to the wiring jig plate and extends passing the axial line of the main line and an outer surface of the main line, and displaying the guide line on the CAD display; and a branch line setting unit for branching out the branch line from a position on the main line in a direction along the guide plane.
