In a database management apparatus for managing a database where an index is used in a search for data, the data is stored in a table that has attributes of the data as columns. The index is created in association with at least one column. The columns include an index key column for which the index is created without data being stored. Upon reception of a request to register the data in the table including the index key column, the data in columns other than the index key column is registered. An index of the index key column is updated using data corresponding to the index key column.

Method and apparatus for data processing with index search

A database management method for updating data of a duplicated ID sequential arrangement table and arranging segments of data with respect to the arrangement table includes managing a management table holding the arrangement table name and a name of a duplicated key column, arranging a new row in an empty space in a first partial set of segments of rows having identical values in the duplicated key column to that of the new row, searching for a sequential empty space having capacity larger than that needed to hold the first partial set of segments of rows, and moving the first partial set of segments of rows to the sequential empty space and arranging the new row in a different set of segments if the sequential empty space is found or arranging the new row in a new segment if the sequential empty space is not found.

A method for processing data performed in a data processing system having a storage unit is provided which includes: creating a spatial index comprising a leaf containing location information and attribute information with respect to a plurality of objects to be searched, and storing the spatial index in the storage unit; and referring to the spatial index stored in the storage unit in response to an input of a search request including location information and attribute information for searching the object to be searched, and extracting the object to be searched that agrees with the search request. With this configuration, a spatial search with subsidiary condition search can be processed at high speed, without merging results of both searches.
