A virtual network control apparatus configured to perform assignment of physical resources under management for a virtual network embedding request, including: a physical network resource management agent configured to manage use state of resources on a physical network at each future time; and a virtual network control agent, the virtual network control agent including: demand prediction means configured to perform prediction of future demand for a virtual network; and use resource determination means configured to calculate physical resources to be used at each future time by the virtual network based on a prediction result of the demand obtained by the demand prediction means and information of future use state of resources on the physical network obtained from the physical network resource management agent, and to notify the physical network resource management agent of information of physical resources of the calculation result.

A design apparatus is provided for designing a probability that a delivery server or a delivery route is selected for content delivery in response to a delivery request from a user. The design apparatus receives, as input parameter values, a parameter related to a network and an estimated amount of demand for delivery requests generated by users for content, and designs a selection probability that a cache server is selected as a delivery server for content delivery or a selection probability that a delivery route is selected, using model predictive control. The model predictive control uses an objective function for reducing the number of excessive delivery requests, each of which is a delivery request generated by a user for a content item and then rejected, and said delivery route is a combination of the delivery server and a delivery path on which the content is delivered by the delivery server.

An evaluation device includes a first evaluator configured, for each record used for transmission control of data circulating in a network, to evaluate extent of variation of an amount of the data, based on a history of the amounts of the data matching a condition of the record; a second evaluator configured, for each of the records, to evaluate a size of a space represented by the record, based on the condition of the record; and a calculator configured, for each of the records, to calculate an index value representing a possibility that a predetermined or a greater amount of the data matches the condition of the record within a fixed period of time, based on an evaluation result by the first evaluator, and an evaluation result by the second evaluator. Therefore, it is possible to evaluate a possibility of a sudden occurrence of a flow whose traffic volume is large.

A virtual network control method, for adaptively controlling a topology of a virtual network formed on a physical network in response to environmental changes in the virtual network, is provided with: a step of storing the Langevin equation, as a fluctuation equation, which models the dynamics of the topology of the virtual network as a variable for controlling the number of wavelength paths on the physical network; a step of designing control parameters included in the fluctuation equation; and a step of controlling the topology of the virtual network by applying the control parameters to the fluctuation equation to change an order parameter included in the fluctuation equation when environmental changes occur in the virtual network, and by transitioning the solution of the fluctuation equation between attractors determined by the deterministic term of the fluctuation equation due to the fluctuation term of the fluctuation equation.

A route switching method for switching a route in a core network that accommodates service networks including user node apparatuses by use of a server storing path information that includes, in every time frame, a route for a working path and a route for a backup path to be switched over from the working path, both of the working path and the backup path established between two boundary node apparatuses each of which is located on a boundary between the service network and the core network. The server calculates, in response to the connection request from the user node apparatus, a route for a working path and a route for a backup path, and requests the boundary node apparatus to establish this working path. The server can send the route for the backup path to the boundary node apparatus before a failure occurs in the core network. The boundary node apparatus establishes the working path in response to the establishment request for establishing the working path from the server, and can perform a quick recovery by switching over the working path to the backup path when a failure occurs in the core network.

A network is realized having GMPLS and IP/MPLS mixed, in which an IP/MPLS node can be operated as is without replacing the IP/MPLS node with a node having a GMPLS function, even if the GMPLS and IP/MPLS are mixed. To match with the protocol of the IP/MPLS node outside of a GMPLS cloud, the GMPLS+IP/MPLS node (edge) establishes a PSC-LSP between GMPLS+IP/MPLS nodes (edge), uses the PSC-LSP as an IP/MPLS link from the viewpoint of the IP/MPLS node, and operates signaling of an MPLS-LSP establishment requested from the IP/MPLS.

An upper layer node is used in a multi-layer network which includes an upper layer network which performs switching and transfer in units of packets, and a lower layer network which includes optical transmission lines and optical switches and accommodate the upper layer network; this upper layer node being connected to the lower layer network which includes lower layer nodes including obstruction restoration sections, and transmission lines, and including: a section which detects the occurrence of an obstruction upon a transmission line which it accommodates; a section which advertises the detection result as obstruction information; a section which retains the topology information for the network; a section which updates the retained topology information according to advertised obstruction information, or obstruction information which it has detected; and an advertisement transfer section which advertises to other upper layer nodes the advertised obstruction information.

Upper layer node, lower layer node, and node control method

A multi-layer photonic network and nodes used therein are provided. The multi-layer photonic network comprises a packet network which performs switching and transfer in packet units, and a photonic network comprising optical transmission lines and photonic switches, and which accommodates the packet network. The multi-layer photonic network also has a two layer structure of optical wavelength links (O-LSPs) and packet links (E-LSPs). The O-LSPs are constituted by the optical transmission lines and comprise optical wavelength switching capability (LSC) which is capable of switching in optical wavelength units and packet switching capability (PSC) which is capable of switching in packet units at both their ends. The E-LSPs include the O-LSPs and PSCs at both their ends. Each node includes a section for automatically establishing an O-LSP according to an establishment request for an E-LSP while taking account of path information including path cost, resource consumption, and traffic quantity.

The node according to the invention is suited to use in an optical/electrical path integrated network constructed from a plurality of electrical sub-networks comprising nodes which are interconnected by electrical paths in which routing is performed based on packet header information and a photonic core network comprising nodes which are interconnected by optical paths, the photonic core network and the plurality of electrical sub-networks being interconnected by optical paths, wherein the node comprises a device which outputs to other nodes, a traffic quantity between the node to which it belongs and other nodes.

The present invention relates to a node used in an optical communication network, and comprises functions for transferring and receiving data, and a unit for establishing and releasing a cut through path to a node of the next stage, the establishing and releasing unit having a detecting unit which detects the arrival of a request packet for establishing a cut through path to the node stage.

Optical dynamic burst switch

The present invention relates to a node which is used in the structure of an optical communication network. This node has a signal transmission function for performing data transfer and a signal receiving function for performing data signal reception, and includes a unit for establishing and releasing a cut through path to a next stage node. Moreover, it includes a unit for detecting the arrival of a leading packet of burst data, and the unit for establishing and releasing the cut through path includes a unit for establishing a cut through path to the next stage node, when the arrival of a leading packet of burst data is detected by the leading packet arrival detection unit.

Based on requested bandwidths received from all edge nodes and destination edge nodes, the total reservation of the bandwidths requested by respective edge nodes for each link is calculated, and the total value is subtracted from the maximum admissible bandwidth of the link to obtain the residual bandwidth, and it is decided whether a new requested bandwidth is less than the residual band of which link of the path to the destination edge node.

A local switch serving a terminal constituting the destination of an IP packet is identified from the IP address of the packet, and time slot switching information is formed, this being information relating to a route through an STM network to this local switch. The packet can then be transferred through the STM network in accordance with this time slot switching information. As a result, a packet with an IP address can be transferred through an STM network.

Circuit-switched network

A packet classification search device and method are implemented which are capable of searching rules of packet classification having very long search bit width at high speed while using a CAM which has a limited bit width. The fields of rules of packet classification are grouped into groups, and the grouped fields of each rule are stored along with search related information (except for the initial group) and number of searches information in a CAM. The next number of searches information (if further groups exist which must be searched), comparison related information, and actions related to packets (if further groups exist which must be searched, directing searching again, while if no further groups exist which must be searched, actions for packet classification) are stored in a search result storage device. By doing this it is made possible to search with the bit width of the group unit.

Nodes notify each other of the availability situation of links, whereby the link availability situation is reflected in the network topology information held by each node. The designated routing information of a packet which arrives at a local node for subsequent transfer is updated on the basis of the topology of a network from which the following have been removed: any nodes which a packet arriving at the local node for subsequent transfer has already passed; any links directly connected to such nodes; and any congested or faulty links.
