Composite panel comprising at least one layer containing at least one tape comprising a thermoplastic polymer selected from the group consisting of polyolefins, polyesters, polyvinyl alcohols, polyacrylonitriles, polyamides or polyketone, wherein the tape has a tensile strength of at least 1.2 GPa and an areal density of between 5 and 150 g/m, and an adhesive in contact with said layer, whereby the amount of the adhesive in contact with one side of the at least one layer is between 0.2 and 15 g/m, wherein the adhesive is a plastomer wherein said plastomer is a random copolymer of ethylene or propylene and one or more Cto Ca-olefin co-monomers and wherein said plastomer has a density as measured according to 1801183 of between 860 and 930 kg/m. In a preferred embodiment the tape comprises an ultra high molecular weight polyethylene. The composite panel is used in a ballistic resistant article.

The invention relates to a fibrous tape comprising fused polymeric fibers, said fibrous tape having a tape thickness and a tape width and being characterized by a coefficient of variation (CV) of the tape thickness across the tape width of at most 6%.

The invention relates to a process for the manufacture of a multilayer material sheet comprising unidirectional high performance fibers, the process comprising the steps of positioning the fibers in a parallel fashion, consolidation of the fibers to obtain a monolayer, stacking at least two monolayers such that the fiber direction in one monolayer is at an angle &#x3b1; to the direction of the fibers in an adjacent monolayer and fixation whereby the stack of at least two monolayers is subjected to a pressure and temperature treatment for a duration of a least 2 seconds, followed by cooling the stack under pressure to a temperature of 120&#xb0; C. or lower. The invention furthermore relates to the multilayer material sheet obtainable with the process according to the invention. This multilayer material sheet has a reduced uptake of liquids.

Process for producing a three-dimensionally shaped article, comprising the steps a) providing a structure containing a plurality of consolidated films or tapes of uni-directionally oriented polymer, b) forming the structure into a three-dimensionally shaped article by applying a force at a temperature below the melting point of the oriented polymer.
