A head actuator has a shaft fixed on a base and a head supporting member, to which a head is attached, pivotably supported around the shaft. Because the shaft does not pivot with the head supporting member, it is not necessary to provide a member for supporting the pivoting shaft from both sides thereof, so that the head actuator can be made thin. Accordingly the disk storage having the head actuator can also be made thin.

Disk drive

A magnetic disk drive has an ejecting mechanism for ejecting a disk inserted into the magnetic disk drive. The ejecting mechanism has an eject button, a touching member, and a communicating member. The communicating member is coupled to the touching member at one end thereof and coupled to the eject button at the other end thereof. The touching member touches the disk which is inserted into the magnetic disk drive. The communicating member can communicate a force proportional to a force by which the eject button is pushed to a touching member. Therefore when the eject button is pushed gradually, the touching member ejects the disk gradually. The present invention is particularly applicable to a magnetic disk drive having a disk cartridge and a driving device. The disk cartridge has a magnetic disk and a magnetic head therein, but no current supply source to drive them and no controller to control the driving of them. The driving device has the current supply source and/or the controller. Accordingly, even when the disk cartridge is ejected by the ejecting mechanism from the driving device, the magnetic disk and the magnetic head do not collide with each other.

A magnetic disk drive has a disk cartridge and a driving device. A disk cartridge is an apparatus which has at least a disk and a head in a sealed case, but has no current supply source to drive them and has no controller to control them. A driving device is an apparatus which has the current supply source and/or the controller. The disk cartridge can be easily connected to and disconnected from the driving device. The connection and disconnection are achieved by connectors of the disk cartridge and the driving device. The connector of the disk cartridge and/or the driving device has a movable cover thereon, and because of the cover, the connector is uncovered when the disk cartridge is connected to the driving device, and is covered when the disk cartridge is disconnected from the driving device.

A magnetic disk storage apparatus has a head holding member which holds a magnetic head at a predetermined position apart from a magnetic disk after recording or reproducing in order to prevent either or both from getting damage. Since the location of the head holding member can be adjusted by the position adjusting mechanism, the head holding member never shade any recordable region of the magnetic disk and the magnetic head and the magnetic disk never come into contact with each other. Therefore the head holding member is always located at an appropriate position.

Magnetic disk storage

An exchangeable hard disk drive including a disk cartridge functioning as a hard disk and a driving device which drives the disk cartridge and prevents external vibration from being transmitted to the disk cartridge. The driving device has a holder into which the disk cartridge is inserted and from which the disk cartridge is ejected and the holder is supported vibro-isolatingly by a vibro-isolating member. In addition, when the disk cartridge is inserted into the holder, they are coupled together. Therefore, the disk cartridge is indirectly supported vibro-isolatingly when the disk cartridge is inserted into the holder. Consequently, the disk cartridge is hardly subjected to the external vibration.

A magnetic disk drive has a mechanism for loading and holding a disk cartridge inserted with a correct orientation at a predetermined position, and for preventing a disk from being inserted with a wrong orientation from being loaded at the predetermined position. The mechanism needs so few members that the magnetic disk drive can be made smaller and thinner. Particularly the mechanism is effective for a magnetic disk drive including a disk cartridge and a driving device. The disk cartridge is an apparatus having at least a disk and a head in a sealed case, but it has no current supply source to drive them and has no controller to control the disk and head. The driving device has the current supply source and/or the controller. The disk cartridge may be considered as being an easily exchangeable hard disk.

Magnetic disk drive having a mechanism for preventing a disk cartridge

A video tape recorder records and/or reproduces an information signal on and/or from an endless magnetic tape having a shape of an endless loop. A large portion of the tape is accommodated within a stationary reel, and an endless belt guided by rollers on the stationary reel is provided in an approximate C-shape. The tape is wound around an outer portion of the endless belt in a form of a tape roll, and a remaining portion of the tape forms a predetermined tape path. When the tape is transported in a forward direction, the tape is drawn out from an innermost turn of the tape roll and is taken up on an outermost turn of the tape roll. The information signal is recorded and/or reproduced on and/or from the tape in the predetermined tape path between the innermost and outermost turns of the tape roll by rotary magnetic heads located on the inside of the stationary reel.

Tape recorder for playing endless magnetic tape

A guide structure for an endless magnetic tape has a stationary reel on which the tape is wound in a form of a tape roll. The tape is drawn out from an innermost turn of the tape roll and is taken up on an outermost turn of the tape roll. The guide structure has guides for guiding the tape between the innermost turn and the outermost turn of the tape roll so as to avoid the tape from being twisted.
