A wireless electrical device interconnect system for a vehicle includes an electrically powered device adapted to be disposed on an interior or exterior surface of the vehicle. A first transceiver is operable to provide a wireless electric power signal, and a second transceiver is operably coupled to the electrically powered device to provide energizing electric power to the electrically powered device to energize the electrically powered service responsive to the wireless electric power signal. A conductive link has a first coil and a second coil. The first coil is disposed adjacent the first transceiver to couple the wireless electric power signal from the first transceiver to the link, and the second coil is disposed adjacent the second transceiver to couple the wireless electric power signal from the link to the second transceiver.

A receiver receives the first reflections and the second reflections and associates the first reflections with the first illuminator based on a result of correlating the first reflections with the first pseudorandom sequence of pulses and a result of correlating the first reflections with the second pseudorandom sequence of pulses, the receiver includes an optical detector array and a processor.

A wireless vehicle-trailer interface system for communication between a vehicle and a trailer is provided. The vehicle may include a vehicle hitch, a vehicle control system, a vehicle radio frequency system, and a processor, the processor configured to generate a unique data packet for each vehicle radio frequency system, determine, for each received response packet, a distance between a corresponding receiving vehicle radio frequency system and a corresponding transmitting trailer radio frequency systems, determine a relative physical position of each vehicle radio frequency system and trailer radio frequency system, determine dimensions of the trailer, determine a physical position of a vehicle hitch and a trailer coupled, and generate instructions for the vehicle control system to cause the vehicle to move to align the vehicle hitch with a trailer coupler.

The vehicle includes an on-board gateway for communication using visible light communication (VLC) and a visible light transceiver that is operated by the on-board gateway to enable VLC data communication. The transceiver can communicate with a VLC-enabled device that is within a communication range of the vehicle. The VLC-enabled device can be internal to or external to the vehicle. In one embodiment, a VLC signal is communicated between the vehicle and another vehicle having an on-board VLC gateway and transceiver. The on-board gateway and VLC transceiver enable provide traffic management. A traffic management signal is transmitted from a signal origination device and received at the vehicle using visible light communication, allowing the vehicle to be driven according to the traffic management signal.

A system and method of locating a key fob with respect to a vehicle includes: detecting short-range wireless signals communicated between the key fob and a plurality of nodes at the vehicle using an IEEE 802.11 protocol; calculating the distance of the key fob relative to each of the nodes attached to the vehicle based on the detected short-range wireless signal; and determining the location of the key fob based on the distance of the key fob relative to each of the nodes.

A spatially distributed module and method of assembling the spatially distributed module in a vehicle include disposing a first sub-module of the module in a first location of the vehicle, and disposing a second sub-module of the module in a second location of the vehicle that is spatially separated from the first location. The first sub-module includes a processor and a memory device and the second sub-module includes a first set of one or more components. The method includes coupling the second sub-module to the first sub-module via a flexible connector such that the first set of the one or more components in the second sub-module use the processor and the memory device in the first sub-module. Slot antennas built into metallic body panels utilize the vehicle body itself as an antenna radiator. Building the slot antennas directly into the metallic body panels converts the vehicle body from functioning as an RF shield into an RF antenna, which significantly improves mobile communication reception for a wide range of RF communication devices. Different types of slot antennas may be included for different communication channels utilized by different types of devices. Multi-band slot antennas are configured to receive multiple bands within a larger frequency channel. Dual-polarity antennas are configured to receive signals propagating in a dual-polarity mode. Multiple slot components may be configured as multi-band, dual-polarity antennas. Each slot antenna may be passive (without an RF pickup) or active with an RF pickup and coaxial cable connecting the antenna to an electronic device, such as receiver or amplifier located inside or otherwise interconnected with the vehicle.

The transceiver of the portable device transmits a response signal in response to the interrogation signal. The controller controls a measurement duty cycle of the interrogation signal as a function of the determined range.

The method further includes determining whether a number of the at least one base station serving the area is sufficient by utilizing the potential capacity of the plurality of vehicular relay nodes in the area and the potential data demand in the area.
