This disclosure concerns compositions and methods for promoting transcription of a nucleotide sequence in a plant or plant cell, employing a promoter from a GmCAB2 gene. Some embodiments relate to a promoter or a 5' UTR from a GmCAB2 gene that functions in plants to promote transcription of operably linked nucleotide sequences. Other embodiments relate to a 3′ UTR or a terminator from a GmCAB2 gene that functions in plants to promote transcription of operably linked nucleotide sequences.

Compositions and methods for controlling pests are provided. The methods involve transforming organisms with a nucleic acid sequence encoding an insecticidal protein. In particular, the nucleic acid sequences are useful for preparing plants and microorganisms that possess insecticidal activity. Thus, transformed bacteria, plants, plant cells, plant tissues and seeds are provided. Compositions are insecticidal nucleic acids and proteins of bacterial species. The sequences find use in the construction of expression vectors for subsequent transformation into organisms of interest including plants, as probes for the isolation of other homologous (or partially homologous) genes. The pesticidal proteins find use in controlling, inhibiting growth or killing Lepidopteran, Coleopteran, Dipteran, fungal, Hemipteran and nematode pest populations and for producing compositions with insecticidal activity.

Soybean plants producing soybean seeds comprising leghemoglobin are produced by modifying the genome of the soybean plant. Soybean plants, soybean seeds and soy protein compositions comprising leghemoglobin are provided. Soybean plants, soybean seeds and soy protein compositions comprising leghemoglobin and additionally one or more of high oleic acid, low linolenic acid, high protein, low stachyose, low raffinose and low protease inhibitors are provided. Protein compositions comprising leghemoglobin, such as soy isolates and concentrates can be made from the soybean seeds. Additionally, methods for generating and using plants, seeds and protein compositions comprising leghemoglobin are disclosed.

Compositions and methods related to transgenic high oleic acid/ALS inhibitor-tolerant soybean plants are provided. Specifically, the present invention provides soybean plants having a DP-305423-1 event which imparts a high oleic acid phenotype and tolerance to at least one ALS-inhibiting herbicide. The soybean plant harboring the DP-305423-1 event comprises genomic/transgene junctions having at least the polynucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO:8, 9, 14, 15, 20, 21, 83 or 84. The characterization of the genomic insertion site of the DP-305423-1 event provides for an enhanced breeding efficiency and enables the use of molecular markers to track the transgene insert in the breeding populations and progeny thereof. Recombinant DNA constructs comprising the soybean sucrose synthase promoter operably linked to polynucleotides encoding transcription factors such as ODP1, Lec1 and FUSCA3 are disclosed. These constructs are used for increasing oil content while maintaining normal germination in oilseed plants. Methods to increase oil content in the seeds of an oilseed plant using this construct are also disclosed herein.

This invention relates to polynucleotide sequences encoding SUT2 or SUT4 sucrose transporter genes. Methods for increasing seed oil content and evaluating increased oil content in a plant seed are described. The compositions and methods disclosed herein employ a variety of sequences that encode sucrose transporters and a variety of sequences that influence fatty acid accumulation, including for example, DGAT, Lec1 and ODP1 transcription factor. In specific embodiments, overexpression of SUT2 and/or SUT4 sucrose transporters in combination with DGAT genes further increase plant seed oil production compared to high oil plant comprising recombinant DNA constructs that do not overexpress SUT2 or SUT4 transporters.

Sucrose transporter genes for increasing plant seed lipids

Polynucleotide sequences encoding diacylglycerol acyltransferase genes and the use of these acyltransferases for increased seed storage lipid production and altered fatty acid profiles in oilseed plants are disclosed. Transgenic soybean seed having increased total fatty acid content of at least 20% and altered fatty acids when compared to the total fatty acid content of non-transgenic, null segregant soybean seed are described. Methods for increasing the total fatty acid content of a soybean seed by at least 20% include steps of transformation and selection.

Recombinant DNA constructs comprise plastidic carbonic anhydrase coding sequences operably linked to polynucleotides encoding DGAT or transcription factors such as ODP1. These constructs can be used to increase oil content in plants and seeds to levels that are not achieved with DGAT alone. Methods of generating plants containing the constructs and for increasing oil content in the seeds of an oilseed plant are also disclosed.
