A method for rounding edges of parts, in particular of turbo engines, is disclosed. An edge to the surfaces is rounded, the edge being created by at least two adjacent surfaces of the part. A blasting jet consisting mostly of abrasive particles is directed at its center approximately tangentially to the angle bisecting line between the surfaces at the edge and is moved at a defined rate of advance in relation to the part along the edge such that there is a defined removal of material of the part with rounding toward the surfaces.

Method for rounding the edges of parts

A brush seal for sealing a rotor with respect to a stator includes a bristle housing which is held on the stator or rotor, a cover plate, a supporting plate, a circumferential surface and two side surfaces and in which bristles oriented with their free ends to the rotor or stator are fastened. The bristle housing, for ensuring correct, anti-rotation installation in its seat, includes a first positioning arrangement on at least one side surface or the circumferential surface, the first positioning arrangement interacting in a positive-locking manner with a correspondingly configured second positioning arrangement on the stator or rotor or a separate fastening element for the definite positioning of the bristle housing.

Brush seal

The invention relates to a brush seal for sealing a rotor against a stator. A brush housing is provided for fastening brushes whose free ends are directed towards the stator or rotor. The brush housing is held on the rotor or stator and has a support plate. In the brush seal the free ends of the brushes are provided with a slide-ring to improve the sealing effect and reduce the wear.

A seal housing that defines a fit surface is formed by cold joining the front panel and supporting plate. The front panel or the supporting plate include a beaded lip for firmly joining the front panel to the supporting plate.

A brush seal for sealing a rotor against a housing. The brush seal includes a number of bristles that are each attached to the housing by a clamp member. The clamp member is positioned between a supporting plate and a front panel. The supporting plate has a supporting section for supporting the bristles in an inclined position.

A brush seal is provided for sealing, with minimized leakage, a circumferential gap (S), for example between a rotor (1) and a stator (2) in a gas turbine engine. The brush seal includes a bristle housing (4) rigidly mounted on the stator or the rotor, and bristles (6) having fixed ends securely and durably held in the housing (4) and free ends protruding toward and into the annular gap (S). The housing (4) includes two holder disks (5A, 5B) with an interspace (Z) therebetween, wherein the interspace includes at least one of an axially directed first clamping portion (8) and a radially directed second clamping portion (10), and a widened non-clamping portion (7A, 7B). The fixed ends of the bristles are clampingly held in the first and second clamping portions, while the free ends of the bristles extend generally toward the opposite rotor or stator while being movably supported and guided by the widened non-clamping portion of the interspace (Z). The bristles (6) may extend at a tilt angle in the circumferential direction and may be stitched, woven, or glued together at their fixed ends in order to form a single bristle packet.

A brush seal (1, 101) seals a circumferential gap (S.sub.1) between two relatively rotatable machine components (2, 102; 3, 103), such as the rotor or a shaft and a stator of a fluid flow machine, such as a gas turbine engine. A plurality of seal bristles (4, 104) are fixed in a bristle holder (5) in an annular shape, and are mounted on the stator (3, 103) so that the free bristle ends (7, 107) extend toward and provide a seal against a seal surface (9, 109) of the rotor (2, 102). Each bristle includes a middle body portion (4A) that is tilted at a first tilt angle (.alpha..sub.1) in the circumferential direction following the rotation direction, and the free bristle end (7, 107) is bent or angled relative to the tilted body portion (4A) so as to extend at a second tilt angle (.alpha..sub.2) which is smaller than the first tilt angle (.alpha..sub.1). Preferably, the first tilt angle (.alpha..sub.1) is in the range from 30.degree. to 60.degree., while the second tilt angle (.alpha..sub.2) is in the range from 0.degree. to 15.degree.. The bristles may further be tilted in an axial direction at an angle (.beta.) relative to a radially extending plane. Since the free bristle ends (7, 107) extend substantially perpendicularly to the seal surface (9, 109), the seal effectiveness and the elastic resiliency of the brush seal are maintained, and the bristles are not damaged, independent of the rotation direction of the rotor.

Run-on linings for turbo-engines are arranged between the free ends of moving blades and a housing of a compressor or a turbine of a turbo-engine. The run-on linings are formed of a carrier and fiber bundles and are fastened on the circumference of the housing.

Blade tip seal insert

An apparatus for manufacturing a brush-type seal comprising wrapping a filament over two spaced elongated mandrels in parallel arrangement to form a filament packing, then securing the filament packing at its ends onto the two mandrels, thereafter dividing the filament packing in a median plane between the mandrels to produce two brushes which are then bent into the desired brush shape. The bristles can be formed at an inclination in their mountings by supporting the mandrels on the base beams of a parallelogram linkage which can be displaced and controlled by cam disks so that the length of winding of the filament remains constant.

Apparatus for manufacturing a brush seal

A brush-type seal between machine components in relative motion one with respect to the other, of which at least one member rotates, in which the strands or bristles consist of composite fibers designed for good thermal conductivity in at least portions of their surface and at least the core has flexible, elastic properties. The plurality of bristles are made of combinations of glass and metal or ceramic or plastic materials and various manufacturing processes and arrangements may be used. The fibers are densely combined, massed, bundled or associated otherwise, preferably radially retained or arranged to advantage in annular brushes. The brush seals such as fluid seals are arranged in a particular application on the stator or rotor of a machine, preferably a turbomachine. This brush-type seal is applicable to seal two chambers under different pressure.
