Disclosed is a process for preparing copolymer dispersions made of alkylene oxides and glycidyl ethers according to formula (I) in which Ris hydrogen or a C-C-alkyl radical, Rand Rare an alkyl or aryl radical having 1 to 30 carbon atoms, and Ris an alkyl or aryl radical having 1 to 50 carbon atoms, which may also contain heteroatoms. In formula (1), x is a number from 0 to 10, y is a number from 0 to 10, n is a number from 0 to 100, k is a number from 1 to 100, Ris an acid group or hydrogen, and m is a number from 1 to 500, with the proviso that (y+n) must be at least 1.

Copolymers containing styrene oxide and use thereof as emulsifiers and dispersing agents

The invention relates to a method for producing pure alpha-alkoxy-&#x3a9;-hydroxy-polyalkylene glycols, creating small impurities of the product on high-molecular a-&#x3a9;-di-hydroxy-polyalkylene glycols. The method is based on the use of high-boiling initiator alcohols of the following general structure R&#x2014;(OCHCHR)&#x2014;OH wherein Rrepresents an alkyl radical comprising between 1 and 4 C atoms, preferably R&#x2550;CH, k represents a number between 1 and 10, preferably between 1 and 4, and R represents H, CHor an alkyl radical comprising between 2 and 4 C atoms, preferably R&#x2550;H, CH. The use of the cited initiator alcohols enables the mixture of a basic catalyst and an initiator alcohol to be dried in such a way that it has a very low water content, and thus to produce very low concentrations of unwanted a-&#x3a9;-di-hydroxy-polyalkylene glycol impurities.
