A circuit arrangement includes a plurality of switch assemblies connected in series, each provided with a parallel circuit of three assembly components, in which a first assembly component is a semiconductor switch, a second assembly component is a freewheeling diode, and a third assembly component is a surge arrester. The assembly components are disposed one above the other or next to one another as an assembly component stack, the three assembly components of each switch assembly are disposed in the assembly component stack in a consecutive manner. Each two adjacent assembly components are electrically connected to one another by a direct connection. A power converter module and a method for operating a power converter module are also provided.

Circuit arrangement, power converter module, and method for operating the power converter module

A converter assembly includes a converter with converter valves, each having power semiconductor switches. At least one fluid-tight encapsulation housing, in which at least some of the power semiconductor switches are disposed, forms a modular converter unit. The encapsulation housing is at least partially filled with an electrically insulating insulation fluid in order to electrically insulate the power semiconductor switches disposed in the encapsulation housing.

Converter assembly

A control system controls a plurality of controllable units with a central control device and further has a plurality of control modules, each of which is assigned to one of the units to be controlled. The central control device is set up to exchange digital data with each control module. The control modules form a connection network, wherein each control module is connected to at least one other control module via a communication line so that data exchange between them is possible. One of the control modules is directly connected to the central control device as the master node of the connection network, and the control modules are set up to form a communication network within the connection network, so that the data exchange between the central control device and each control module can be respectively carried out via an assigned communication path within the communication network.

A circuit arrangement has an even number of semiconductor switches, which are connected in series and contain in each case two load terminals and a control terminal and are associated with one another in pairs. The circuit arrangement also contains, for each semiconductor switch, a driver for actuating the semiconductor switch via the control terminal thereof and, for every two semiconductor switches that form a switch pair, contains a switching power supply which is supplied with energy from an electrical voltage between the two load terminals of a first semiconductor switch of the switch pair and supplies both the driver of the first semiconductor switch and the driver of the second semiconductor switch of the switch pair with energy.

Circuit arrangement and power converter module having semiconductor switches connected in series

A circuit arrangement includes two switching group series circuits of switch assemblies, switch-mode power supply units, and two capacitor bridges connecting the switching group series circuits. Each switch assembly has a parallel circuit of a semiconductor switch and a freewheeling diode as well as a driver for actuating the semiconductor switch. Each switch-mode power supply unit is associated with a switch pair of semiconductor switches and supplies the drivers of both semiconductor switches of the switch pair with energy. Each switch pair is formed by a semiconductor switch of a first switching group series circuit and a semiconductor switch of a second switching group series circuit. A power convertor module having the circuit arrangement is also provided.

Circuit arrangement and converter module with switch assemblies connected in series

A method and a device provide protection for a multi-terminal HVDC grid against faults. The method includes measuring a DC displacement voltage having a polarity and a value, determining if a short circuit fault exists by comparing the DC displacement voltage with a threshold displacement voltage and identifying a fault type based on the polarity and the value of the DC displacement voltage. The disclosed device contains a converter having a positive pole and a negative pole, a DC-switch substation, a DC line connecting the converter and the DC-switch substation and a transient fault detector. The transient fault detector contains a positive voltage sensor sensing a positive transient voltage of the positive pole and a negative voltage sensor sensing a negative transient voltage of the negative pole and a control unit which is adapted to derive a DC displacement voltage from the positive and the negative transient voltages.

Transient protection for multi-terminal HVDC grid

A sub-module of a modular braking unit that is connected to a DC transmission network. Each sub-module has an inverse diode, and a storage capacitor connected in parallel with the inverse diode via a free-wheeling diode. An energy-consuming switching unit is connected to the storage capacitor. In order to provide a sub-module of this type such that the braking unit can function with relatively low losses in the stand-by and idle state, the sub-module is provided with an actively switchable semiconductor bypass path in parallel with the inverse diode. A braking unit has a plurality of series-connected sub-modules and we disclose a method for operating a braking unit of this type.

Electric power is transferred between an AC voltage grid and a DC voltage grid in the high-voltage range. Phase modules have at least one common DC voltage connection and separate AC voltage connections. A phase module branch between the DC voltage connection and each AC voltage connection has a series circuit of two-pole sub-modules, each with an energy storage device and a power semiconductor circuit in parallel with the energy storage device. The power semiconductor circuit is driven to generate either the voltage drop across the energy storage device or else a zero voltage at the two sub-module connection terminals. A converter transformer has a primary side on an AC voltage grid and a secondary side connected to the AC voltage connections. Improved protection against overloading is provided by at least one surge arrester between the or one of the common DC voltage connections and the inverter neutral point.
