In one aspect, multimedia connections are enabled between terminals coupled to a first communication network with a power characteristic control system and to a second communication network for transmitting multimedia data to be controlled in a simple manner. When a switching-oriented power characteristic is activated, the power characteristic control system controls a base connection by means of the first communication network between a first terminal and a second terminal. In the framework of the base connection, address information identifying the first terminal in the second communication network and multimedia information are transmitted to the second terminal. Furthermore, according to a multimedia capacity of the second terminal, the transmitted multimedia information, and the control system of the base connection, a terminal-controlled multimedia connection is controlled by means of the second communication network between the first and the second terminal, on the basis of the transmitted address information.

Method and terminal for controlling multimedia connections

There is described a system for switching from an established media path to a new media path for packets transmitted between first and second end points in a packet based network. An instruction is transmitted to the first end point instructing it to set up a new receiving channel for receiving packets transmitted from the second end point over the new media path. An instruction is transmitted to the second end point instructing it to configure a sending channel to send packets over the new media path for reception on the new receiving channel of the first end point. For a time period during the switching, the first end point monitors for packets simultaneously on both its new receiving channel and an established receiving channel configured to receive packets transmitted from the second end point over the established media path. This systems helps ensure a seamless switchover from the established to the new media paths.

In one aspect of the invention, emergency modes of operation for an adapter unit comprising a channel transmitter/receiver unit, a data packet transmitter/receiver unit, and a data insertion/data retrieval unit which inserts signaling data transmitted by the channel receiver unit into data packets and forwards the same to the data packet transmitter unit while retrieving signaling data from the data packets received by the data packet receiver unit and forwarding the same to the channel transmitter unit is provided. The adapter unit especially allows terminals of a branch to be connected in a fail-safe and simple manner to a central telecommunication system.

The invention relates to a method for transmitting communication data in a communication system (CSY) between a calling first communication unit (IPPA) and a called second communication unit (IPPD), wherein, in a first step a primary connection is set up starting from the first communication unit (IPPA) via at least one node unit to the second communication unit (IPPD) with transmission of addressing data of the communication units (IPPA,IPPD) and node units participating in the setup of the primary connection. Following this, the first communication unit (IPPA) and/or a first node unit disposed along the primary connection which have a valid addressing data element are registered as the ingress node. The invention relates to a method for supporting the mobility of a subscriber across a communication system comprising a communication terminal which is associated with a first communication device and can be registered when a log-on procedure is initiated by the input of log-on information relating to the subscriber, a second communication device for providing configuration data of the subscriber, and a packet-oriented network by which means the communication terminal is connected to the first and second communication devices. Once a successful registration has been carried out, the communication terminal is logged off the first communication device and associated with the second communication device.

Said communication system comprises a communication terminal having a first transmission/reception unit for a radio interface and a portable device having a second transmission/reception unit for the radio interface, for data exchange. Incoming calls to the team can reach the team controller through the network interface of the first communication system and through the network interface of the second communication system and a call diversion to the first communication system. In the case of a failure of the hot-line link, a team function subcontroller in the second private branch exchange cancels the call diversion and performs the control sequence of the team function for the team terminals connected to the second private branch exchange.
