Embodiments of the present invention relates to an assembly unit having an electronic circuit unit which is accommodated in a housing, can be electrically connected to a higher-level switching system for signal and power supply purposes and comprises a signal processing unit for controlling consumer elements which are connected to the assembly unit, are installed within the housing or being virtual consumer elements-, wherein the signal processing unit comprises a plurality of units which are interact so as to allow, during operation, electrical disconnection of the assembly unit with load current-free electronic circuit unit from the state electrically connected to a higher-level switching system. An input/output unit for data acquisition in a field bus system includes a microcontroller that has at least one integrated synchronous serial bus interface and a control device for direct memory access. A signal source for a digital signal is connectable to a digital data input master input, slave output (MISO) of the at least one synchronous serial bus interface. The first synchronous serial interface reads in the digital signal present at the data input MISO at a first clock rate that corresponds to a data transmission rate of the at least one synchronous serial bus interface. The control device for direct memory access forwards the read-in data words to a buffer memory, and periodically fetches the read-in data words from the buffer memory and forwards the read-in data words to a second synchronous serial bus interface or to another bus interface.

To be able to achieve shorter communication cycles, the invention proposes a communication system which is able to connect field devices to a higher-order control device. For this purpose, a connection device is provided which is connectable to a higher-order control device via a transmission medium. The connection device has at least one first port and at least one second port, to each of which a field device may be connected. The connection device has at least one functional device which is switchable between at least one first port and at least one second port. The functional device is designed to generate output data intended for the second port in response to the input data arriving at the first port.

A method and communication system that provide an inexpensive approach that enables the times of events that are detected in IO device to be determined in a higher-level controller. The higher-level controller has a system clock and is connected to an IO link device to which multiple first IO devices are able to be connected. In addition, a second IO device is connected to the IO link device. The clock of the second IO device is synchronized by a synchronization device with the system clock of the higher-level controller. The status data that are provided by at least one of the first IO devices and the current time data that the second IO device supplies are transmitted simultaneously to the IO link device. The IO link device assigns the status data received to the received current time data, then transmits these data to the higher-level controller.
