A process for the dry sluicing of sediment from pressurized systems, such as gasification processes, in which gravitationally conveyed sediments are cooled to below their release temperature before removal. The sediments are cooled via indirect heat exchange, such as radiation cooling, to below their release point in a first zone, and are then further cooled indirectly as well as directly via cool countercurrent gas in a second zone to temperatures below 300.degree. C., the sediment route in the second zone being lengthened by deflection of at least a part of the sediment, the sediment being removed via a sluice. The apparatus for performing the process includes a pressure resistant tank with a conical lower portion containing outlet branches, one outlet branch of which includes an externally cooled sediment conduit, the upper section of which includes straight and diagonal jacket surfaces, the bottom section including a vertical sediment shaft to which a first sluicing valve, a sluice and an additional sluicing valve are connected in sequence.

Process and apparatus for the dry sluicing of grit, slag or sediments

Fuel gas produced in a coal distillation or gasification plant 1 is fed to a power plant 5 and chlorine, fluorine, sulphur and compounds thereof in the fuel gas are separated from the fuel gas, and also from flue or exhaust gas emanating from the power plant, in two stages. In a first stage, chlorine and fluorine and their compounds are separated, preferably in the dry using alkali metal or alkaline earth metal oxides, hydroxides or carbonates, in a separator 3. In a second stage sulphur and its compounds, together with further chlorine, fluorine and their compounds, if any, produced in the power plant, are removed from the flue or exhaust gas from the power plant in a desulphurizing plant 6. This two stage process is thermally more efficient and less costly than a process in which the chlorine, fluorine sulphur and their compounds are all removed at once from the fuel gas.

Process for the separation of chlorine, fluorine and sulphur from fuel

A method of operating a flue gas desulfurization with a steam power plant heated with fossil fuels. The sulfur dioxide contained in the flue gas is removed in a wash tower by means of an excess of milk of lime or limestone, and the resulting sulfite is oxidized with air at a low pH-value into calcium sulfate. The non-converted milk of lime or limestone is neutralized at least partially by an addition of acid waste waters from a complete desalination plant for the supply water, and/or by an addition of acid condensate from the flue or chimney of the steam power plant. An installation for carrying out the method of the present invention includes a wash tower having flue gas flowing therethrough, an oxidation tower having air flowing therethrough, milk of lime or limestone supply into the wash tower, and a delivery device for the wash liquid in the wash tower and in the oxidation tower, with the device having a pump for liquid drawn off from the sump of the wash tower. The sump of the wash tower is connected with a supply line for acid waste water from a complete desalination plant, and/or with a supply line for acid condensate from the chimney or flue of the steam power plant.

Method for operating a flue gas desulfurization

An improved plant for coal carbonization or gasification of the type having a vessel with reaction compartment, at least one burner at the top of the reaction compartment for the partial combustion of finely-ground coal at a temperature above the ash-melting temperature to produce a product of gas, coke dust and slag or ashes, the compartment having a bottom opening for the discharge of gas-coke dust current from the compartment, and means for separating the product gas is disclosed. A lower chamber is in the vessel underneath the compartment adjacent to the opening. A heating surface in a vertical wall portion of the vessel surrounding the lower chamber, and a slag trap adapted to trap slag arranged in the bottom of the chamber is provided.
