A method for connecting exchanges via a packet-oriented communication network wherein the exchanges are connected via a respective conversion device to the packet-oriented communication network, in which data transmission involves data packets subdivided into substructure elements being set up. For data transmission, the conversion device associated with a transmitting exchange inserts the substructure elements into the data packets, and a conversion device associated with the receiving exchange separates the substructure elements from the data packets.

Method for connecting exchanges via a packet-oriented communication network

The communication terminals are connected to the packet-oriented communication network via a hub and the switching system is connected to the packet-oriented communication network via an access unit. A data format formed of substructural elements is set up for a data transmission between a switching system and the communication terminals. The data to be transmitted in the form of substructural elements are inserted into data packets at the transmitter end for a data transmission via the communication network. The substructural elements are extracted from the received data packets at the receiver end. Accordingly, the data packets have been transmitted transparently with no compression/decompression and conversion according to the RTP protocol at the transmitter and receiver end.

A method for switching between two communication links present between two communication systems. A first and a second communication system are connected through a first link which uses a first communication network and through a second link which uses a second communication network. These two links each include a transmitting channel and a receiving channel that are used for data transmission by the communication systems. The first link is switched into the second link by switching between the transmitting channel and the receiving channel of the two communication systems.

When an external terminal is signed on to a communications system, a short message service link is set up between the external terminal and a teleworking computer connected to the communications system. Control information which is transferred from the external terminal via the short message service link is converted by the teleworking computer into signaling information that is usually available within the scope of a signaling protocol between internal terminals and the communications system. The converted short message control information is then transferred on to a control unit of the communications system.
