Yarn traversing system

An apparatus for winding a textile yarn into a cross-wound package is disclosed, in which the yarn is wound about the package at a substantially constant rate while the yarn is guided onto the package by a traversing guide. The apparatus includes a yarn guide means which is reciprocated along a linear stroke path, and means are provided for recovering the kinetic energy of the yarn guide means during its reversal of movement at each end of the stroke path. Several specific embodiments of the yarn traversing guide are disclosed, and in one embodiment the traversing guide includes gripper means mounted on a slide which is positioned between parallel runs of a drive belt, and control means for moving the gripper means to alternately engage the two runs of the belt and thus reciprocate the slide.

Yarn traversing apparatus for a winding machine

A yarn false twisting apparatus is disclosed which comprises a support bracket which mounts a pair of twist imparting circular discs, and drive means including a whorl rotatably mounted to the support bracket so as to be tangentially contacted by a drive belt mounted to the central frame of a twisting machine. The support bracket is mounted to the central frame for pivotal movement through 180 degrees to thereby permit selective operation in a first position wherein S twist is imparted to the yarn, and a second position wherein Z twist is imparted to the yarn. Preferably, one of the discs is composed of a thin flexible material, and a pressure applying member is mounted on the support bracket for biasing the flexible disc toward the other disc locally at the twisting zone. In the disclosed embodiment, the discs are also adjustably movable with respect to each other, and the pressure applying member is movable in a direction perpendicular to the movement of the discs, such that the ratio of twist insertion to yarn advance speed may be varied.

Friction false twisting apparatus

A multi-spindle double twist twisting machine having a belt drive assembly, a spindle frame formed to enclose the belt drive assembly, and traversing rod reciprocating means. The machine may be a horizontal spindle machine with two rows of spindles on each side. A beam mounted independently of the spindle frame extends along each side between rows and supports a drive belt for tangential driving contact with spindle whorls. The belts are commonly driven and reversing rolls are associated with one belt so that it travels opposite the other belt, and compensating rolls are associated with the other belt so that the belts may be of the same length. The spindle frame has two spaced support plates laterally outward of the belt drive assemblies and two cover plates secured to and extending between flanges on the support plates to form an enclosure for the belt drive assembly. The traversing rod reciprocating means uses a pulley and drive belt take-off from the drive shaft of one traversing rod reciprocating cam to drive a second cam so that only one drive motor, replaceable gear assembly and modulating gear assembly are required.

Multi-spindle double twist twisting machine

A multi-spindle double twist twisting machine having a spindle frame in the form of a support plate that serves as a self-supporting sub-frame mountable alternatively in either a vertical or horizontal spindle machine and on which a plurality of spindle assembly mounting means are supported in two staggered rows. The support plate has side flanges to facilitate forming an enclosure around spindle assembly whorls and a belt drive assembly. A separator wall is mounted on the support plate between the rows of spindle assemblies and has ballooning yarn guides mounted thereon and extending over the spindle assemblies. The wall is extendable to adjust for yarn package sizes and operating conditions. The support plate may be formed in two portions with adjacent flanges for attaching the portions together and the wall may have an attaching flange for positioning between the adjacent flanges of the support plate portions to form an integral independent sub-frame. The spindle assembly mounting means is disposed on the support plate to provide a space at the end of each row, preferably at one end of the support plate beyond one row and at the opposite end of the support plate beyond the other row. Receivers for storage of spindle assembly heads are mounted in these spaces. The spindle assemblies are formed with discs having segments provided thereon for mounting of magnet means or weights to resist rotation of the yarn package from which yarn is withdrawn into the twisting operation.
