The present invention is directed to methods for removing COfrom air, which comprises exposing sorbent covered surfaces to the air. The invention also provides for an apparatus for exposing air to a COsorbent. In another aspect, the invention provides a method and apparatus for separating carbon dioxide (CO) bound in a sorbent.

Removal of carbon dioxide from air

A method and apparatus for extracting COfrom air comprising an anion exchange material formed in a matrix exposed to a flow of the air, and for delivering that extracted COto controlled environments. The present invention contemplates the extraction of CO2 from air using conventional extraction methods or by using one of the extraction methods disclosed; e.g., humidity swing or electro dialysis. The present invention also provides delivery of the COto greenhouses where increased levels of COwill improve conditions for growth. Alternatively, the COis fed to an algae culture.

Method and apparatus for extracting carbon dioxide from air

Disclosed is a method for removing carbon dioxide from a gas stream, comprising placing the gas stream in contact with a resin, wetting the resin with water, collecting water vapor and carbon dioxide from the resin, and separating the carbon dioxide from the water vapor. The resin may be placed in a chamber or a plurality of chambers connected in series wherein the first chamber contains resin that was first contacted by the gas, and each successive chamber contains resin which has been wetted and carbon dioxide collected from for a greater period of time than the previous chamber, and so on, until the last chamber. Secondary sorbents may be employed to further separate the carbon dioxide from the water vapor.

Capture of carbon dioxide (CO2) from air

The present disclosure provides a method and apparatus for extracting carbon dioxide (CO) from a fluid stream and for delivering that extracted COto controlled environments for utilization by a secondary process. Various extraction and delivery methods are disclosed specific to certain secondary uses, included the attraction of COsensitive insects, the ripening and preservation of produce, and the neutralization of brine.

Methods and systems for automating carbon footprinting

Methods and systems for capturing carbon dioxide from dilute sources are disclosed. In some embodiments, the methods include the following: (a) directing a first substantially gaseous stream including a first amount of carbon dioxide to a primary scrubber; (b) in the primary scrubber, removing a portion of the first amount of carbon dioxide thereby forming a second substantially gaseous stream including a second amount of carbon dioxide; (c) directing the second substantially gaseous stream to a secondary scrubber; (d) in the secondary scrubber, removing a portion of the second amount of carbon dioxide thereby forming a third substantially gaseous stream; (e) mixing substantially all of the portion of the second amount of carbon dioxide removed in step (d) with the first substantially gaseous stream before it enters the primary scrubber; and (f) repeating steps (a) thru (e).

Methods and systems for capturing carbon dioxide from dilute sources

Methods and systems for producing a moisture swing sorbent for carbon dioxide capture from air are disclosed. In some embodiments, the methods include the following: providing a heterogeneous ion-exchange material; soaking the material in deionized water; washing the material in hydroxide or carbonate solutions; rinsing the material in deionized water; collecting and titrating residuals of the soaking and the washing steps into a residual solution; measuring an amount of chloride in the residual solution; repeating all of the steps if the amount of chloride measured in the residual solution is greater than zero; and drying the material with either dry nitrogen gas or air free of carbon dioxide and water.

Method for producing a moisture swing sorbent for carbon dioxide capture from air

The present disclosure provides a method for removing carbon dioxide from a gas stream without consuming excess energy, wherein a solid sorbent material is used to capture the carbon dioxide. The solid sorbent material may utilize a water-swing for regeneration. Various geometric configurations are disclosed for advantageous recovery of COand regeneration of the sorbent material.

The invention provides methods and systems for tagging carbon dioxide to be stored in a geologic formation. In some embodiments, a method includes: providing a carbon dioxide tracer that is quantifiable and distinguishable versus non-anthropogenic produced carbon dioxide; providing carbon dioxide to be stored in the geologic formation; determining what portion of the carbon dioxide is anthropogenic produced carbon dioxide; and mixing a predetermined quantity of the carbon dioxide tracer with the carbon dioxide stored to develop a tagged quantity of carbon dioxide for storage in the geologic formation. In some embodiments, a system for tagging a stream of carbon dioxide includes a tagging module and a mixing module. Tagging module includes a carbon dioxide tracer that is quantifiable and distinguishable versus non-anthropogenic produced carbon dioxide. Mixing module includes mechanisms for containing and injecting the carbon dioxide tracer into a stream of carbon dioxide.

Systems, methods, and devices for tagging carbon dioxide stored in geological formations

The present invention describes methods and systems for extracting, capturing, reducing, storing, sequestering, or disposing of carbon dioxide (CO), particularly from the air. The COextraction methods and systems involve the use of chemical processes. Methods are also described for extracting and/or capturing COvia exposing air containing carbon dioxide to a solution comprising a base&#x2014;resulting in a basic solution which absorbs carbon dioxide and produces a carbonate solution. The solution is causticized and the temperature is increased to release carbon dioxide, followed by hydration of solid components to regenerate the base.

Systems and methods for extraction of carbon dioxide from air

Methods, systems, and apparatus for managing sulfur are disclosed. In some embodiments, the method comprise the following: obtaining material containing sulfur; refining the material to develop a high sulfur content heavy fraction fuel oil and a low sulfur content light fraction fuel oil; burning the low sulfur content light fraction fuel oil in apparatus that emit to the atmosphere; burning the high sulfur content heavy fraction fuel oil to produce energy thereby generating flue gas containing sulfur oxide; and removing and disposing of sulfur in the flue gas using a sulfur sequestration system that includes utilizing sulfur removed from the flue gas to form a brine material.

A carbon dioxide permeable membrane is described. In some embodiments, the membrane includes a body having a first side and an opposite second side; a plurality of first regions formed from a molten carbonate having a temperature of about 400 degrees Celsius to about 1200 degrees Celsius, the plurality of first regions forming a portion of the body and the plurality of first regions extending from the first side of the body to the second side of the body; a plurality of second regions formed from an oxygen conductive solid oxide, the plurality of second regions combining with the plurality of first regions to form the body and the plurality of second regions extending from the first side of the body to the second side of the body; and the body is configured to allow carbon dioxide to pass from the first side to the second side.
