The invention provides a process for the manufacture of a polyethylene wax micro-powder, 99 weight % of which has a grain size of less than 15 microns, for the dulling of varnishes. Such a micro-powder generally cannot be obtained without difficulty by grinding; in accordance with the invention this is possible, however, by grinding the polyethylene wax together with an amide wax.

The invention relates to a process for the temporary protection of metal and lacquered surfaces comprising applying thereto an aqueous emulsion containing a hydrocarbon wax or the oxidate thereof, optionally waxes based on montan wax and/or natural waxes, as well as a basic saponifying agent and emulsifiers. The wax films resulting from the emulsions are waterproof, however, they are easily removable--even after aging--without the use of a solvent being necessary, merely by a treatment with a water-steam mixture.

For coating carbon paper waxes are required which are not only capable to disperse high amounts of carbon black but also have good oil binding properties. For this purpose natural waxes carrying ester groups are treated with oxygen until they have a high carbon black absorption. The waxes are oxidized in the melt. They can also be oxidized in admixture with hydrocarbon waxes or the derivatives thereof.

A coating composition essentially consisting of a polypropylene having a crystalline fraction of from 20 to 60 % by weight and a melt viscosity of from 5,000 to 200,00 cP at 170.degree.
