A method is provided for producing a superconductive electrical conductor, in which a layer of an yttrium-barium-copper oxide (YBCO) is applied as a superconductive material onto a textured metal substrate, and is subjected to a heat treatment. In order to produce a wire-shaped conductor, a textured metal substrate, provided as a strip (), is initially shaped in its longitudinal direction around an elongate metal support () with a circular cross section to form a slotted tube () having edges extending in the longitudinal direction and adjoining one another at a slot (). The slotted tube () is next closed by welding the slot () shut, and the closed tube () is then contracted by pulling until it bears on the support (). The layer () of superconductive YBCO material is thereupon applied all around, and the heat treatment is finally carried out.

In a process for producing longitudinally welded tubes, a metal strip, which is continuously pulled from a supply, is gradually formed into a slit tube and the longitudinal slit of said slit tube is welded. Apparatus for manufacturing an optical fiber cable

In a method and apparatus for manufacturing an optical fiber cable, a metal band is gradually shaped into a lengthwise slotted tube, the optical fibers are introduced into the still open slotted tube, the lengthwise slot of the tube is welded and the outside diameter of the welded tube is reduced. The welded tube with the reduced outside diameter is wound at least once around a take-up reel. A force provided on the reduced outside diameter welded tube as it is wound on the take-up reel causes an elastic strain of 0.1 to 0.6% on the tube. The strain is released on the take-up reel to produce an overlength of the optical fibers relative to the reduced outside diameter welded tube.

In a method for producing a lengthwise welded metal tube with an outside diameter of 1 to 6 mm, whereby a metal band is shaped into a lengthwise slotted tube by a forming tool, and the lengthwise slot of the tube is welded by a laser welding installation, the tube to be welded passes immediately before and immediately after the welding point area through a guide that guides the surface of the tube to keep the edges of the band in contact with each other and keeps the welded seam stress-free. The jaws of a clamping tool grip the welded tube immediately downstream of the guide to keep it from twisting.

Method for producing a lengthwise welded metal tube

A device for attaching protective insulation to the end of an electric wire, having at least one lead to which a contact element has been attached, includes a carrier (1), equipped with at least three injection dies (3), which can rotate around an axis (A), and of at least one injection molding device (2, 10), located in the circumferential area of the carrier (1). A guide path, extending circumferentially around the carrier (1), is attached to a fixed part of the device. The guide path includes two portions of different radii, extending together nearly 360.degree., which are concentric to the axis (A) of carrier (1), and converge at one end through a transition piece in the guide path. The other ends of the guide path are located at the loading position level (I) of the injection dies (3). The movement of the injection dies (3) is guided by the guide path. The injection dies are closed in the small radius area of the guide path, and are open in the larger radius area. The carrier (1) can rotate in steps of an angle corresponding to the distance of the injection dies (3) from each other.
