Artificial antibodies or antibody mimics are described. They consist of polymers that carry specific binding sites mimicking the properties of antibodies. There is also described a method for producing artificial antibodies, in which polymerisable monomers carrying functional groups and crosslinking monomers are polymerised in the presence of a print molecule and subsequently the print molecule is removed leaving specific binding sites complementary to the print molecules. There are also described methods for determination and isolation of organic molecules using the artificial antibodies as well as therapeutic and diagnostic methods using these antibodies.

A selective adsorption material made by the process comprising: a) non-cavalently or reversibly-covalently binding a print molecule to at least two styrene, acrylate or silica monomers, each of which monomers brinds to said print molecule by means of a different functional group; b) immobilizing said bound monomers by being polymerized to each other in the presence of an effective amount of cross-linker; and c) removing said print molecule from said polymer by extraction to leave a cavity in said polymer which is stereo-tailored to a biological molecule of interest; and wherein said print molecule is the biological molecule of interest.

Selective affinity material, preparation thereof by molecular imprinting, and use of the same

This patent application describes the use of molecular imprinting as a means for preparation of anti-idiotypic imprint matrices. With this technique, imprints of artificial or natural molecules including their recognition sites, such as of molecularly imprinted polymers or biological receptors, antibodies or enzymes, can be prepared. In the former case, using the original imprints as casts or molds in a subsequent polymerisation step, utilising preferentially functionally complementary monomers, the formation of imprint materials containing recognition sites complementary in shape and functionality with the original imprint can be obtained but being of different composition. Alternatively, imprints or images of the artificial or biological species can be obtained directly. The so formed preparations can be used in a vast variety of applications, e.g. as new drugs, inhibitors or new affinity materials.

Preparation and application of artificial anti-idiotypic imprints

Polymer particles are formed containing molecular memory recognition sites and magnetically susceptible components. The particles are prepared by co-polymerizing one or more monomers and a cross-linking agent in the presence of at least one imprint molecule and at least one magnetically susceptible component such as iron oxide or nickel oxide, and removing the imprint molecule to form molecular memory recognition sites. The particles are also prepared by co-polymerizing the monomer and cross-linking agent in the presence of the imprint molecule to produce particles, removing the imprint molecule and associating magnetically susceptible components with the particles. The particles may also be prepared containing selective adsorbents such as cells or antibodies. The particles are used for selective adsorption of a product such as separating and resolving two different enantiomeric forms due to one of the forms adsorbing to a memory recognition site created by using the form as an imprint molecule. A magnetic field is used to separate particles containing an adsorbed product from a solution in which the product is adsorbed to the particles.

Preparation and use of magnetically susceptible polymer particles

This invention relates to molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) using an amide as the hydrogen bonding functional group. The amide MIPs made according to this invention exhibited enantiomeric recognition of the imprinted species when evaluated by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) even in an aqueous phase. In addition, the amide MIPs demonstrated improved enantiomeric resolution and load capacity.
