A computer-implemented method is disclosed for validating an operating system patch, along with a computer program product and a patch module. After output of an operating system patch an automatic self-test is executed on the medical device at application level, which tests whether the installed operating system patch was able to be successfully installed. In this case a validation signal is output. The self-test is executed directly on the application system.

The method includes identification of whether there is an unsafe combination of rights for a loaded memory segment; a check to determine whether an unsafe combination of rights is permissible as an exception, and a defense measure, through deletion of the right if there is an unsafe combination of rights and this combination of rights is not permissible. The method also may include a repair measure which repairs the damage which has been caused by the deletion of the right.

A prepaid licensing method permits the prepaid licensing of software on a machine in a secure manner. The method includes storing information for licensing at least one prepaid use of software on a machine. The information, which can be in the form of a software option, includes unique and unchangeable information identifying the machine, and information for measuring a number of uses of the software on the machine. The method includes locally granting a license for the number of prepaid uses of the software on the machine, based upon the stored information.

The central computer communicates the parameter set to a decision-maker. It incorporates the parameter set into a parameter set list if the central computer is prescribed an acceptance command by an operator. Parameter sets incorporated into the parameter set list can be communicated from the central computer to an interrogator at the request of the interrogator.
