Epoxidized and subsequently cross-linked esters of alcohols which are at least dihydric and unsaturated fatty acids may be used as active processing substance in polymers, in particular elastomers, at higher temperatures, in particular at higher vulcanization temperatures, than 'Factice'. They may be produced by a particularly elegant one-shot reaction.

Use of cross-linked epoxidized fatty oils in vulcanizing polymers

Esterification products of monoalcohols and dicarboxylic acids, or of polyhydric alcohols and monocarboxylic acids respectively, containing 5 to 45% by weight of units of hydroxycarboxylic acids and having a ratio of carbon to oxygen atoms greater than 4.1 obtained from (a) aliphatic C.sub.1 -C.sub.14 alcohols, (b) aliphatic C.sub.4 -C.sub.18 carboxylic acids and optionally cycloaliphatic C.sub.6 -C.sub.12 and aromatic C.sub.7 -C.sub.12 carboxylic acids, and (c) lactones of aliphatic C.sub.5 -C.sub.12 hydroxycarboxylic acids. They are suitable for the preparation of lubricants and lubricant compositions.

Lactone-modified ester oils

An ester base stock which comprises pentaerythritol, cyclohexyl carboxylic acid, isostearic acid and at least one other C.sub.6 -C.sub.16 saturated aliphatic monocarboxylic acid, having low volatility, a high flashpoint, and increased basic viscosity as well as a very high viscosity index.
