The present invention relates to an aqueous coating composition (A) having a pH in a range from 4.0 to 6.5 and comprising at least one cathodically depositable binder (A1), a total amount of at least 130 ppm of Bi, based on the total weight of (A), including at least 30 ppm of Bi in a form (A3) in solution in (A) and at least 100 ppm of Bi in a form not in solution in (A), and at least one at least bidentate complexing agent (A5) suitable for complexing Bi, (A5) being present in (A) in a fraction of at least 5 mol %, based on the total amount of the Bi present in (A), for at least partly coating an electrically conductive substrate with an electrocoat material, to a method for producing (A), to the use of (A) for at least partly coating an electrically conductive substrate with an electrocoat material, to a corresponding coating method, to an at least partly coated substrate obtainable by this method, and to a method for setting and/or maintaining the concentration of component (A3) and/or (A4) in the coating composition (A) during the coating method.

Aqueous dip-coating composition for electroconductive substrates, comprising both dissolved and undissolved bismuth

The present invention relates to a method for reducing the ionic strength or the concentration of certain polyvalent ions in aqueous dispersions of organic binding agents or inorganic solid bodies by electrodialysis, and a cell package suitable for use in the method. This method permits stabilization of aqueous compositions of the dispersed components by regulating the ionic strength or the concentration of certain polyvalent ions thereby increasing the durability and throughput times of coating baths. More particularly, the method is used in removing polyvalent metal cations from anionically stabilized aqueous binding agent dispersions. A special application exists in removing from autophoretic baths, which contain anionically dispersed organic binding agents and possibly inorganic pigments for forming protective layers on metallic components, polyvalent cations of zinc, iron and aluminum, which accumulate in the bath when components with surfaces comprised at least partially from zinc, iron and/or aluminum, are processed.

The invention relates to an at least two-stage method for corrosion protection treatment of metal surfaces, wherein, in a first step (i), an organic coating comprising an aqueous phase (A) is applied to the metal surface and, in a following step (ii), the organic coating applied to the metal surface contacted with an acidic, aqueous composition (B) comprising at least one or more water-soluble compounds containing at least one atom selected from the elements Zr, Ti, Si, Hf, V and/or Ce and one or more water-soluble compounds that release copper ions. The invention further comprises a metal component that is at least partially made of steel, iron, zinc and/or aluminum and the alloys thereof and has been treated by the method according to the invention, and to the use thereof in automobile construction and in the construction industry and for producing household appliances and electronics housings.
