The invention relates to a headbox for a machine for producing a fibrous web, especially a paper or cardboard web, from at least one fiber suspension, comprising a feed device feeding the at least one fiber suspension, a perforated distribution pipe plate arranged immediately downstream thereof and having a plurality of channels arranged in lines and columns, an intermediate channel arranged downstream thereof, extending over the width of the headbox and having a plurality of means for dosing a fluid in partial fluid streams to the at least one fiber suspension in a preferably adjustable/controlled manner, the means being spaced apart from each other in the width direction of the headbox and the individual means comprising a plurality of dosing channels having respective dosing channel openings on the outlet side and a dosing channel length, arriving at different levels and being connected to a common supply channel. The headbox according to the invention is characterized in that the dosing channel length of the dosing channel is 1.5 times longer than the dosing channel opening of the dosing channel on the outlet side and in that the distance of the dosing channel opening of the dosing channel on the outlet side to the turbulence generator ranges from 0 to 50 mm.

Paper or cardboard machine and method for regulating a basis weight of a paper or cardboard web in the manufacturing process. The paper or cardboard machine includes at least one headbox that extends across a machine width. The at least one headbox is adapted to provide a machine-wide distribution of a material suspension onto one of a screen and between two screens. The machine also includes at least one material suspension supply coupled to the at least one headbox and adapted to supply a material suspension to the at least one headbox. The at least one material suspension supply has at least one concentration. At least one first control loop is provided that includes at least one actuator being adapted to adjust the at least one concentration of the at least one material suspension supply, at least one detector for determining a basis weight of a finished web, at least one supply being adapted to modify the at least one concentration of the at least one material suspension supply, and at least one device that adjusts the at least one actuator. In this manner, the at least one concentration of the at least one material suspension supply is adjusted. At least one second control loop is provided that is adapted to regulate the concentration of the material suspension supply. The method includes determining a basis weight at an end of the manufacturing process, calculating a deviation of the determined basis weight from a predetermined target value, adjusting a concentration of a material suspension supplied to a headbox via a first control loop such that the calculated deviation is corrected, one of directly and indirectly measuring a basis weight of a resulting web in a region upstream, with regard to a web travel direction, a drying section, and supplying a signal related to the measured basis weight to a second control loop.

Device to control or regulate the basis weight of a paper or cardboard web

Headbox for a paper-making machine including a nozzle extending transversely to the machine running direction across the machine width. The nozzle has a lower and an upper continuous wall each extending across the machine width. The lower nozzle wall is supported by several separate supporting elements distributed across the machine width on a foundation. The supporting elements are non-rigid or flexible plates to permit bending in a direction transversely to the machine running direction. Alternatively or additionally, a swivelable or pivotable upper nozzle wall is connected by several separate supporting members distributed across the machine width to a transverse bar attached above a swivel axis. An apparatus and a process for controlling or regulating a web property profile of a paper or cardboard web produced in the manufacturing process of a paper or cardboard machine is disclosed. The apparatus incorporates information regarding the position of one or more devices of a plurality of adjustable devices for sectionally manipulating at least one web property for regulating or controlling the devices to manipulate at least one web property across the width of the machine. The process includes combing the regulating process or a regulator device for adjusting individual actuators that only act on a certain section of conventional systems with the adjustment of an actuator acting across the entire web width for achieving a certain web property, so that the sectionally-operating actuators are not located in an end-position, so that these sectional actuators continue to be able to adjust the web property.

The head box may include a pulp suspension inlet feed device that is sectioned across a width of the head box that feeds a pulp suspension in a feed direction, at least one device having a plurality of entrance ports that produces microturbulences, and an intermediate channel extending across the width of the head box and positioned in front of the at least one device. A headbox for passing fiber suspension from a headbox entrance to a headbox outlet. A microturbulence insert with a plurality of flow channels inside the headbox. The channels are defined by channel forming elements having upstream ends. The headbox has an antechamber upstream of the turbulence insert. Respective individually adjustable additional feeds for feeding at least one second liquid into the antechamber upstream of the upstream ends of the channel forming elements of the turbulence insert. The feeds are preferably directed counter to the direction of the main flow of suspension into the channels of the turbulence insert. Vanes direct the main flow of suspension through the antechamber to the channels creating a respective sectioned flow to each channel. The additional liquid feeds are positioned to feed their additional liquid into the respective sectional flows after the main flow of suspension has already been diverted to a sectional flow. A method of use of such a headbox wherein each feed of additional liquid into the main flow of suspension is deflected in the direction of the nearest channel of the turbulence insert by the main flow of suspension and by the vanes which guide the main suspension flow toward the channels and which prevent the additional liquid feed from one sectional flow entering another sectional flow.

Apparatus for influencing a cross-sectional profile of a headbox having an inner chamber and process for determining a width and position for the sections of the headbox. The apparatus includes a device for distributing fluid that extends across a machine width, at least one connection opening extending across the machine width between the fluid distribution device and the inner chamber of the headbox, and a plurality of elements being one of continuously and discretely adjustably positionable within the fluid distributing device to section the fluid distributing device across the machine width. The process includes measuring a profile of a selected characteristic of the pulp suspension in the headbox that is dependent on its position; forming intersecting points of the profile of the characteristic with a uniform sectioning of the size of the characteristic under consideration; and determining the position and width of the sections. In this regard, the width of respective sections correspond to a respective distance of the points of intersection of the profile of the characteristic with the uniform sectioning of the size of the characteristic under consideration, and the position is determined by the intermediate space between two respectively adjacent points of intersection of the profile of the characteristic with the uniform sectioning of the size of the characteristic under consideration.

The metering device of this invention serves for the addition or the removal of fluids into or from the breast box of a papermaking machine and includes a chamber for the reception of fluids, with the chamber including a number of metering openings that are connected with the suspension-carrying parts of the breast box via throttling devices, whereby the fluid can be added or removed locally.
