A method is described and represented for testing a control apparatus with a test device, where the control apparatus has at least one state variable and at least one actual functionality that contains a time dependency, and the control apparatus and the test device are connected to each other via a signal interface. The problem of the present invention is to prevent&#x2014;at least partially&#x2014;the disadvantages known from the state of the art, and, particularly, to provide a method for testing a control apparatus, which allows as simple and flexible an acquisition of the target functionality of a control apparatus is possible, and which takes into account the time dependency of the target functionality as comprehensively as possible during the test case generation.

The invention relates to a method of creating a requirement description for an embedded system, including but not only a motor vehicle electronic control unit, in which a vocabulary of natural-language, selectable text segments is stored in a data processing system, said text segments being combinable with one another to form at least one natural-language sentence, possibly but not necessarily in the English language, to form a machine-readable requirement description, and that each text segment is linked to a set of further text segments that can be combined with it, whereby for a text segment that is selected, the data processing system automatically represents the further combinable text segments in selectable form on a display unit. The invention further relates to a computer program product stored on a data medium that, when executed on a data processing system executes a method according to one of the previous claims.

Method of creating a requirement description for testing an embedded system

The invention involves a process and system for testing a technical system, such as an electronic control devices. The system includes a data processing system for executing a test sequence stored in memory. The data processing system communicates with the technical system via an interface. Data is transmitted by the executed test sequence to the technical system and/or read by the technical system. The test sequence for executing a test may be graphically displayed. The test sequence may be composed of executable program blocks in a graphical hierarchic arrangement, wherein a simultaneous execution of program blocks of the same hierarchal level can be determined by graphically arranging the program blocks adjacent to one another, and by executing program blocks of a different hierarchic level subsequently one after the other, by graphically arranging the latter among each other in the display.
