Methods and systems of fabricating a polymeric stent are disclosed herein.

Manufacturing process for polymeric stents

A polymeric stent has an inner surface with an inner diameter that tapers continuously in size. A method for manufacturing a stent includes blow molding a polymeric tube within a mold having a tapered, cylindrical cavity such that the polymeric tube attains a corresponding tapered shape. The tapered tube is used as a substrate from which a laser cuts interconnecting stent struts.

An implantable medical device is disclosed having a helical construct including a set of spiral coils for local in vivo application of a therapeutic substance in a biological lumen. The helical construct is configured to apply less than 0.75 Bar of pressure to the biological lumen wall. The helical construct can have at least two sets of spiral coils having opposing helical directions. The device can be used for the treatment of vascular disorders such as restenosis and vulnerable plaque.

A stent with a stent locking element and a method of securing a stent on a delivery implement, such as a catheter are disclosed. The locking element can include coupling elements capable of being releasably coupled to one another. The coupling elements may be adapted to inhibit shifting of the stent on the delivery implement. In some embodiments, the releasably coupled elements may secure the stent on the delivery implement.

Methods and systems of fabricating a polymeric stent are disclosed herein. Methods are disclosed that include forming a polymeric tube comprising a polymer using melt processing, radially deforming the formed tube, and forming a stent from the deformed tube. The diameter of the formed tube is less than a target diameter and the tube is radially deformed so that it comprises the target diameter. Forming the stent includes laser machining a stent pattern in the deformed tube at the target diameter with an ultra-short pulse laser.

A stent for treating a bodily lumen with a flexible section in a high strain region is disclosed. A flexible section may be selectively positioned to reduce an amount of strain in the high strain region when subjected to the applied stress during use to inhibit or prevent fracturing in the high strain region.

A polymeric tube is positioned on a polymeric mandrel and then laser cut to form an implantable medical device, such as a stent. The assembly and method reduces contamination of the inner surface of the stent, which would be caused if conventional glass or metal mandrels are used, while simultaneously reducing damage to the inner surface of the stent due to the shielding effect of the polymeric mandrel.

Method and apparatus to prevent stent damage caused by laser cutting

Methods of fabricating an implantable medical device from a tube or a sheet in an expanded or stretched state, respectively, are disclosed herein. The implantable medical device may be an endoprosthesis such as a stent. In one embodiment, the method may include radially expanding a tube about a cylindrical axis of the tube from a first diameter to a second diameter. The method may further include forming a pattern on at least a portion of the expanded tube. Additional embodiments may include forming a stent pattern on a stretched sheet from which a stent may be formed. In addition, a stent pattern may be formed on a tube that is formed from a stretched sheet.
