In order to increase an automatic connecting speed at a torque limiting coupling, a torque limiting coupling () has a coupling hub (). Driving elements () are adjustably held in the apertures and extend parallel to the longitudinal axis. A coupling sleeve has first recesses () corresponding to the apertures. A switching disc () is rotatably arranged between a connected position and a freewheeling position, relative to the coupling hub. The switching disc () can be transferred by a rolling movement of the driving elements () from the connected position into the freewheeling position. The switching disc () has second recesses () that engage the driving elements () in the freewheeling position. A first and second spring mechanism load the switching disc () in the circumferential and axial direction. Circumferential play () is formed between the driving elements () and the first recesses () in the connected position.

Torque limiting coupling

A torque limiting coupling () in a drive line for driving agricultural implements has a coupling hub () and a coupling sleeve () that rotatably arranged around the coupling hub (). The coupling hub () and the coupling sleeve () are rotatable around a rotational axis D. Drivers () are displaceable in the coupling hub (), respectively, along a driver axis M that is transverse to the rotational axis D. The driversmove between a torque transmitting position and a switched-off position. Recesses () are formed in an inner circumferential face () of the coupling sleeve (). The drivers () engage the recessesin their torque transmitting position. A setting mechanism () acts upon the drivers () with a force to urge the driversto take up their torque transmitting position. The drivers () have, respectively, two ratchet faces (). The recesses () have, respectively, two counter ratchet faces (). When the coupling () is switched-off in each rotational direction of the coupling hub () relative to the coupling sleeve (), with a number of relative revolutions in excess of a re-switching-on number of revolutions, one ratchet face () and a counter ratchet face () interact such, that a displacement of the drivers () into the torque transmitting position is prevented.

Coupling for limiting the torque

A torque limiting coupling defines a longitudinal axis ( ) and has a coupling hub ( ) with circumferentially distributed through holes. Transfer elements are adjustably held in the holes. A coupling sleeve ( ) has first recesses corresponding to the through holes. A switching disk ( ) is arranged relative to the coupling hub ( ) between a torque transmitting position and a freewheeling position. The switching disk ( ) is urged towards the torque transmitting position. This urges the transfer elements in the direction towards the coupling hub ( ). The transfer elements engage, for torque transmission, in recesses of the coupling sleeve ( ). Coupling sleeve ( ), when a predetermined nominal torque is exceeded, is transferable from the torque transmitting position to the freewheeling position. Second recesses, corresponding to the through holes, receive the transfer elements in the freewheeling position. A locking pawl ( ), in a retaining position, interacts at least with one switching face ( ) of the switching disk ( ). The switching disk ( ) is transferable from the torque transmitting position into the freewheeling position. In the retaining position, the locking pawl interacts with a first retaining face ( ) of the coupling hub ( ) so that the torque limiting coupling ( ) is retained against rotation.

A torque limiting coupling, in drive lines or driving agricultural machinery has a first coupling part (1) and a second coupling part (14), as well as a switching ring (19) loaded by a spring (28). Balls (30) transmit torque between the first coupling part (1) and the second coupling part (14). The balls are axially adjustable in apertures (6) of the first coupling part (1). The apertures (6) are uniformly circumferentially distributed around the axis of rotation (2). In the torque transmitting position, the apertures (6) are positioned opposite torque transmitting recesses (16) in the second coupling part (14). The balls (30) are held in recesses (16) in the engaged condition by the switching ring (19). When the torque is exceeded, the balls (30) escape out of the torque transmitting recesses (16). In the course of this process, the switching ring (19) is first displaced against the force of the loading spring (28). To ensure that the coupling is transferred only when the first coupling part (1) is associated in a certain way with the second coupling part (14), a control ball (31) is provided which cooperates with a first control recess (21) of the second coupling part (14).

A torque limiting coupling (1) has a coupling sleeve (5), a coupling hub (2), and driving elements (12) settable between a torque transmitting position and a disconnected position. A switching ring (27) and loading balls (24) are provided which, in the torque transmitting position, load the driving elements (12) radially inwardly. If the driving elements (12) give way in their disconnected position, the balls (24) are pushed radially inwardly until the switching ring (27) is able to slide over the balls (24) and prevent them, via a bore portion, from displacing radially outwardly. This ensures that, if the coupling hub and coupling sleeve continue to rotate relative to one another, the driving elements (12) cannot re-engage the recesses and thus assume the torque transmitting position. If the switching ring (27) is displaced manually, it must be moved into a position wherein the balls (24) are again able to escape radially outwardly, thus enabling the driving elements (12) to engage the torque transmitting position. Thus, re-engagement is only possible if the switching ring (27) is moved from its disconnected position of the driving elements (12) into the torque transmitting position of the driving elements (12).

A protective device for telescopic driveshafts used in driving agricultural implements has two protective tubes (8, 9) which are axially inserted into, and overlap, one another. The tubes (8, 9) are adjustable relative to one another along their longitudinal axis (5) and are made of plastics. The outer protective tube (8) includes three circumferentially distributed pairs of ribs ( 13, 14). The ribs (13, 14) are arranged at a distance from one another and a groove (11) is formed between the ribs (13, 14). Guiding webs (15) are provided between pairs of ribs ( 13, 14). The webs (15) project inwardly towards the longitudinal axis (5) from the inner face (12) of the outer protective tube (8). The webs (15) also project inwardly towards the longitudinal axis (5) and serve to center and radially support the tube (9). The outer face of the outer protective tube has a smooth finish. Thus, there are no projections which may possibly injure the operative when unintentionally rotating the protective device.

A torque limiting coupling (5) has a plurality of slide-like driving members (19) circumferentially and movably distributed in a coupling hub (10). The unit is rotatably accommodated in a coupling sleeve (7). The driving members (19), with their torque transmitting faces (25) at their heads, are pushed by a spring assembly (38, 39) and switching cams (32) into correspondingly designed recesses (22) of the coupling sleeve (7). The pressure springs (38, 39) and the switching faces (30, 31) of the driving members (19) as well as the torque transmitting face (25) are arranged so as to extend in the same direction. Thus, the springs (38, 39), during the transmission of torque by the coupling sleeve (7), subject the driving members (19) to a moment which acts against the tilting moment resulting from the transmission of torque. This results in an improved wear and switching behavior.

The invention relates to a switchable freewheeling ratchet unit 1a having a coupling sleeve 2 and a coupling hub 5 as well as radially resilient locking ratchets 13 and 38 per direction of rotation, which engage recesses 11 and 39 of the coupling hub 5 and which, depending on the direction of rotation, may be disengagable from the coupling hub 5 by a control ring 23 with control elements 21. The control elements 21 have first control faces 19, 19a and the locking ratchets 13 and 38 have second control faces 18, 18a facing the first control faces 19 and 19a for freewheeling purposes. The locking ratchets 13 or 38 not serving torque transmitting purposes are completely disengaged from the recesses 11 and 39, respectively, and are out of contact with the coupling hub.

Switchable freewheeling ratchet unit

The invention is directed to a freewheel clutch which transmits torque in two directions of rotation and controls the blocking pawls by control rings which are held back by friction rings ounter to the rotary motion and by guide extensions and pivot journals of blocking pawls guided in radial slots in guide extensions which move the blocking pawls out of or into engagement with the assigned support recesses of the inner part into a disengaged or engaged position. While, for instance, the one blocking pawl is moved into the torque transmitting position, simultaneously, the other blocking pawl is moved out of the position permitting torque transmittal. This assures a short response travel and with it a rapid switchover from the one driving direction to the other without interfering with the freewheeling motion.

Pawl freewheel clutch

A locking mechanism for fixing an outer part (5) on an inner part (4) having locking members (8) which are guided in apertures (7) of the outer part so as to be radially movable in a limited way. In the locking position, these locking members (8) are supported radially outwardly on a locking ring (10). A control ring (16) retains the locking ring in the open position. For this purpose, the control ring (16) is displaced eccentrically and is supported on a stop (19) associated with the outer part (5). By inserting the inner part (4), the control ring (16) is aligned coaxially by the control members (8) so that a spring (12) loading the locking ring (10) can act to move the control ring (16) across the stop (19) so that the locking position is achieved.

The invention relates to a torque limiting clutch consisting of a locking member clutch 1 and a free-wheeling clutch 3. The locking member clutch 1 comprises first locking members 4 which engage recesses 6 in the clutch sleeve 7. The locking members 4 are radially movably arranged in bores of the clutch hub and pretensioned by springs 14. After leaving the recesses 6, the cams 5 are prevented from swinging backwards by means of a tilting wedge 8 arranged in a receiving recess 20 of the clutch hub 3 and by supporting itself against the torque transmitting direction with its supporting face 12 on the supporting face 9 associated with a recess 10 in the clutch sleeve 7. In this way, the cams 5 are prevented from swinging backwards and being damaged in the process.

Torque limiting clutch

A clutch mechanism having radially moving control pins which may be actuated to effect switching of the clutch into a freewheeling condition is formed to include catching members which engage the pins to lock them in position when the clutch mechanism switches to freewheeling operation. The catching members are formed with control cams which engage retaining pins to maintain the locked position of the control pins with rotation of a driving clutch member operating to allow the retaining pins to drop out of engagement with the control cam to enable release of the control pins when the clutch is switched back into the torque transmitting position.

A clutch mechanism designed to include a free-wheeling unit which is disengageable in the driving direction consisting of a clutch hub and a clutch sleeve which cooperate with locking catches, with the clutch sleeve being embraced by a control ring. An overload clutch which is prevented from unintentionally switching into the freewheeling position when rotational vibrations occur includes torque-transmitting members held in apertures of a first clutch member and adapted to be engaged in first recesses of a second clutch member for bringing the clutch into torque-transmitting engagement. A switching ring includes second recesses adapted to align with the apertures in the first clutch member when an overload condition occurs. A circumferentially acting spring tends to hold the switching ring in the torque-transmitting position and a securing pin is mounted in the first clutch member for engagement in a detent in the switching ring to hold the switching ring in torque-transmitting position. The securing pin is held in engagement with the detent by a spring but is arranged so as to extend into the detent a distance which will permit disengagement of the securing pin when a predetermined nominal torque of the clutch is exceeded.
