A method for connecting exchanges via a packet-oriented communication network wherein the exchanges are connected via a respective conversion device to the packet-oriented communication network, in which data transmission involves data packets subdivided into substructure elements being set up. For data transmission, the conversion device associated with a transmitting exchange inserts the substructure elements into the data packets, and a conversion device associated with the receiving exchange separates the substructure elements from the data packets.

Method for connecting exchanges via a packet-oriented communication network

The communication terminals are connected to the packet-oriented communication network via a hub and the switching system is connected to the packet-oriented communication network via an access unit. A data format formed of substructural elements is set up for a data transmission between a switching system and the communication terminals. The data to be transmitted in the form of substructural elements are inserted into data packets at the transmitter end for a data transmission via the communication network. The substructural elements are extracted from the received data packets at the receiver end. Accordingly, the data packets have been transmitted transparently with no compression/decompression and conversion according to the RTP protocol at the transmitter and receiver end.

Method for connecting communications terminals to a exchange via a communications network

A method for determining a network access address wherein a terminal address and a system address designating the switching system associated with the communication terminal are stored in the communication terminal. When the communication terminal is connected to the communication network, a configuration message containing the terminal address is transmitted to the switching system determined by reference to the system address, which switching system determines the network access address via the configuration message.

Proceeding from a source terminal device a connection setup message is communicated to a network node of the communication network A network node receiving the connection setup message enters the network node address allocated to it in the communication network and forwards the connection setup message to at least one neighboring network node. Upon reception of the connection setup message at a destination terminal device, a confirmation message is returned to the source terminal device on the identified route, whereby a switching information for a following message transmission is stored in the network nodes that have been traversed.
